Flashback 1997-1998

30 Nov

Last week on Facebook, someone tagged a bloody awful school picture of me which was taken bloody 11 years ago. In lightning speed, I quickly removed the tag.

WHY?

Because it reminds me of

1)How ugly and fat I was
2)How bad my skin was (although not much has changed since then)
3)How hideous and short my hair was
4)How I looked so different,like a boy
5)How some people used to remind me how unattractive I was

In a nut shell, how much I hated my hideous self then. Not even my husband knows how I looked like back in school. And he shall never find that out till the day I die!

Thinking back, I enjoyed secondary school at 13-15, because girls this young (back then of course) didn’t really care how you look like nor did they give attention to the nitty gritty. So yes I easily sailed through it. Plus it helped that yours truly was the assistant class captain which made her somewhat popular :)

Now Form 4-5 was a blur but I remember the girls being very much separated into cliques. Had at least 4 cliques or so in our class and then there were the occasional loners (not me ok!).

My clique was a small one, – not the popular ones I assure you. Infact someone thought it was okay to label us the gangsters of the class, no idea why. It’s kind of an irony when I think about it especially when I was the Class captain. And a damn nice one at that. Ah well.

Anyway looking back as a 17 year old, I honestly thought the popular cliques were going to be ‘all that’ in later life considering how these girls had everything going for them.

Me? Not only did I have certain issues (see points 1-5 again), the only boy (who I had a huge crush on), who asked me out was only interested in exchanging tips for SPM. I felt so stupid to even think he was remotely interested in me. Stupid Stupid.

Now that I have most of my classmates on FB, it’s funny how 11 years have changed us so much.

The ones that were popular with the boys are now, single or with complicated love lives. The ones that you didn’t think would embrace marriage and motherhood are well, married with cute kids. The ones that everyone assumed would have high flying careers are just another white collar worker. The ones that were quiet are seeing the world and living life. The ones that were bitchy are well, still bitches, lol. That’s something you really can’t change I suppose.

Life oh life, you just never know where it brings you to or set forth upon you.

As for me, from someone who had a lot of issues with one’s self and may not have the best of past, I think I’ve evolved pretty alright.

I may not be the most successful, the richest or the most perfect, but I’m happy.

I’m not sure what others thought I’d become of but fast forward 11 long excruciating years;

Not only have I evolved physically, emotionally and mentally, I’m married to a obedient handsome husband (who knew!) with a BIG BIG and I mean BIG heart ;) , I have a steady job/career, I get to enjoy the occasional travelling and I’m surrounded by people who love me for who I am – even when the makeup comes off, heh.

As an ugly 17 year old, don’t think I would have ever saw this one coming.

So maybe, just maybe, I should start embracing that picture.

Or not.

Life oh life, you gots to embrace it and have a little faith in it folks.

Cooking / Baking Phase

28 Nov

Pastas are such a delight to whip up because you honestly can’t go wrong making them. Nuh uh.

And you really have to love the Italians for this simple yet tasty dish – Spaghetti Aglio E Olio

Raid you kitchen for:

Spaghetti for two
Half cup breadcrumbs
3 clove garlic, chopped
3-4 dried chillies, chopped
Olive Oil
Hot Chilli flakes (flick a few from Dominos)
Sausages (optional)

1. Boil spaghetti until almost al dente. Drain the water leaving spaghetti with a bit of hot water in a bowl

2. On a dry pan without any oil, toast the bread crumb till it turns brown. Remove and put aside in a separate bowl

3. Add a bit of olive oil and fry the garlic and dried chillies. Make sure garlic is not burnt otherwise it will get bitter

4. Place spaghetti and a bit of water into the pan with garlic and dried chillies.

5. Drizzle as much Olive Oil as desired. But not too much.

6. Throw in cooked / microwave sausages

7. Mix everything up in pan

8. Mix in bread crumbs and chilli flakes

9. Makan.

The Results:

I understand that Spaghetti Oglio can be quite hard to make as finding a proper recipe for this is challenge itself. But guess I found the perfect recipe coz it tasted just like the ones you’d fork out RM20 for a plate in restaurants.

SO what’s a girl to do?

Share the recipe.

Hubby’s Rating: 7/10 – Pass la

Enjoy!

Wait, there’s more

I am obsessed with Toblerone chocolate – God bless the Toblerone inventors!

I baked my FIRST Toblerone Cheesecake and it turned out pretty good if I may say so myself. And the next time I fork out RM7 for a slice in a restaurant, I promise I won’t grumble/curse because I spent bloody RM40 just for the ingredients alone. Insane.

Cheesecake approved.

Guess who plans on baking a cake for her hubby’s birthday in January :)

Off to Ipoh, bye!

Restaurant Taktaz @ Seri Kembangan

26 Nov

Having to pass by the Serdang / Seri Kembangan on our way back from PD gave me a spontaneous (if not, brilliant!) idea. And that idea was to feast in Taktaz Restaurant which I’ve initially read in NST and someone’s blog.

Ever since that, I’ve wanted to check this place out but the thought of driving all the way to Seri Kembangan was quite a put off. So finally the opportunity came and I pounced on it – pounced pounced pounced!

Just 15 minutes before the exit, hubby quickly called them to ask for their specific location (yes I save numbers of restaurants in my phone book – just incase) and within 10 minutes from that phone call, we were there, directly opposite South City Plaza (albeit, all smelly and in need of a bath). And hungry.

Nevertheless, beyond the smelliness, I was extremely happy.*pats back*

Flipped through the menu and instantly decided on these:

Iranian Mint Tea (RM5.50)

Hummus (RM 4)

The boys and I had the Chicken Kobidee with Rice (RM9.90 each) Cheap!

While hubby settled for his usual Lamb Koobide Kebab (RM9.90) Cheap!

The food came extremely quick. Not only was it super affordable, it tasted good and gave us a buncit tummy.

Now, this was the first time the boys were exposed to Iranian food. And they loved it. I’m a converter *pats back again*

The bill came up to only RM48 – approx RM12 a head (cheap, no?) and we even got a 10% discount. The 3 of us suspect the lady at the counter had the hots for hubby thus the generosity ;)

More on Saturday night:

That’s us, all set to party Saturday night after the trip at Freedom Elite @ Bukit Kiara.

Why?

Because it was bloody free flow.

But did we make it? No. Because the first time we tried to go in, hubby forgot his invites.

And then we tried going again at 2am but were told they were ending it early since people were all drunk, passed out on the road and in their cars with puke every where. Hmpf.

Never mind, was really impressed with our semangat-ness nevertheless :)

Ah next time, i think there will be another one in December.

Must must go, even if he forgets his invite again.

Dude, I So Got Tagged

22 Nov

Ho-Hum I’m up EARLY on Saturday. The GODS must be laughing – har har!

I got tagged by Jen.

The rules – List out 6 things that bug or annoys you.

Hah, easy!

1) It annoys me when people underestimate me. I can do anything if I put my mind to it. I can rough it out and I will backpack some country one day okay?

Hey you – stop snickering!

2)I absolutely detest the lifts at work – it’s always slow, packed with all kinds of smell and always and I mean ALWAYS stops at every freaking floor when I desperately need to get in/out of the office fast.

3)People who think money is everything. Also those who make plenty of money but yet mooch off others or are just plain stingy annoys the living daylights out of me. Your money does not follow you to your grave okay you cheap shit?

4)Bad breath. Have a mint already!

5)My husband sometimes annoys me, esp when he gets all touchy in public when people are watching! Grrr

6)When I go to an event/party/wedding and find out there’s NO freaking booze. Makes me want to take back my angpow/gift or regret showing up, bah.

And one more

7)My eye allergy right now is bugging the crap out of me. No eyeshadow and mascara for 2 weeks is like torture – if they say eyes are the window to the soul, well this soul looks pretty crap for now.

As you can see this whole bug/annoy thingie goes well right now since I’m not a morning person.

Off now, cousins are here!

P.s: Do you like em BIG and CHUNKY baby?

HELL YEA! Go watch Madagascar Escape 2 Africa, great stuff!
