Bijan Restaurant, Jalan Ceylon

30 Mar

Bijan Restaurant, Jalan Ceylon

I last saw Anusha on her 30th birthday.

1.5 years has gone by and I swear she still looks radiantly young with an amazing new bod! And to top it off, she’s in a loving relationship with a really nice guy :) Happy for her!

We decided to meet at Bijan Restaurant in Jalan Ceylon. I’ve subscribed to Tripadvisor which sends me email updates every week on various countries and incidentally that week they sent me a list of restaurants in Malaysia.

Bijan was number 14 out of 735 (and who knew we have that many restaurants in KL) so I picked that after reading positive reviews and checking out their menu.

We started off with popiah goreng and pegedil. Now my husband who has never tried pegedil before absolutely fell in love with it. Pegedil is made of fried potatoes and minced chicken. I have it at work at least 3 times together with my nasi lemak and fried rice because it makes a perfect complement.

Then for the main course, we decided to go with ayam masak merah, masak lemak ikan with belimbing and the mutton rendang.

We’re not usually big fans of Malay fare (with the exception of nasi lemak and nasi goreng kampung, yum!) but what can I say, Bijan offers really good Malay food minus the oil. The fish was extremely fresh while the chicken was boneless (plus point for me!) and very tasty. I don’t eat mutton (for unknown reasons even to me) but the other 3 had nothing but praises about it. Portion of the food is also HUGE!

Best part about this place is that they serve alcohol, well not that I can have any now. It also helps that the place was pretty classy looking for meet ups with friends or for a quiet dinner for two.

The only downside is how they charge RM3 for a plate of rice and RM6 if you want coconut rice!

The bill came up to RM190 of which RM80 alone went towards drinks and rice. But quite frankly, it was quite a scrumptious meal and definitely worth it!

I was quite tempted to try their spiced teh tarik and bandung ice cream but sadly everyone else was full so I decided not to appear like a typical pregnant glutton :p

So after saying bye to them, the hubby decided to take me to Baskins – always give the pregnant woman what she wants! ALWAYS!

But I’m highly sure not having that spiced teh tarik and bandung ice cream will make a great excuse to go back there with the hubby soon :D

These Ain’t Fat Jeans

These Ain’t Fat Jeans

(Ps: Those who wish to buy brand new maternity tops from the US, email me at teh.tarik.addict@gmail.com thanks!)

When you’re pregnant,  you will automatically kiss your 3 inch high heels goodbye and settle for:

Comfie shoes with sturdy heels or no heels at all.

(Forgive me, I still wear my high heels ocassionally) :D

You’ll get sucked into buying anything that has the  ’safe for mommy, safe for baby’ tagline.

Shopping for maternity clothes in Malaysia is like striking lottery and discovering a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

It is THAT hard to find anything remotely decent. It’s like every time designers design clothes for pregnant women they decide to go brain dead! While you can find some decent clothes ocassionally, it will usually cost you an arm and a leg.
For this reason I’ve shopped for ALL my maternity tops overseas.  Being a borderline shopaholic, I purchased 15 maternity tops online. I’m still waiting for my parcels to arrive and I really hope they’ll fit me great.  But one gold mine I discovered was the maternity jeans and work pants from our very own Jusco in Mid Valley.

Up until last week, I could fit into my jeans. I still CAN but I noticed when I sit, my little bump does seem squashed and it becomes a little uncomfortable for me AND I can’t imagine how it must be for peanut.

So I resorted to buying a maternity belly band.

It’s a simple band that you may use to hold your bump properly. Also, it allows you to unzip the button of your pants/skirts a little while placing this over it so that there’s more space for your belly to breathe.

However, as much as I LOVE this concept, it really doesn’t quite work.  It has its way of moving up causing jeans to unzip completely and become loose.

Feeling frustrated, I stepped into Jusco and made a bee line to the maternity section. Granted their maternity dresses and tops suck big time, I still decided to try on the maternity jeans. I was almost certain this jeans wasn’t going to be a good fit (yet alone flatter me!) but the next thing you know, I was already queuing up at the counter purchasing 2 jeans. All for the price of RM60 each!!

The secret is in the bump holder that makes it soooo comfie!! The cut isn’t too bad too, at least it flatters me. My only gripe is that you need to wear a slightly longer top so that the band doesn’t show or make you look disproportionate.

They’re right when they say the most comfortable clothes you’ll ever wear are maternity clothes!!

Which is why I even saw some non-pregnant older women buying maternity pants too :)

Thai Lemongrass Chicken

Thai Lemongrass Chicken

I first saw this recipe online and thought it was pretty easy to do – just dump everything in and marinate for an hour and two before frying it.

As I started marinating it, I became skeptical about the recipe. For starters, the smell of the fish sauce was too overwhelming that I was almost certain the end product was going to be disastrous.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Guess it took a while for the lemongrass to infuse its aroma into the chicken! Plus the dried chillies with seeds made a good balance of  spiciness.

The recipe: (credit to Temple Of Thai) I did some modifications to the recipe.

Chicken, chopped into bite size

2 stalk lemongrass

3 cloves garlic chopped or minced

Generous amount of ground black pepper

4 dried chilies chopped (and if you don’t want this dish spicy remove all seeds)

1 teaspoon sugar

Pinch of salt

2 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon light soya sauce

 Directions:

Cut off the woody top and bottom of the lemongrass. Remove the outer layer and cut the middle section  into 1 inch length. Bruise the lemongrass by hitting it.

Combine everything into a bowl. Mix it and let it marinate in the fridge for 1-2 hours.

Stir fry chicken in oil for about 15 minutes or so. Or cook until you can get the lemongrass aroma.  Remove and serve

Best served with Thai fried rice.  Simple and easy!

Legend Water Chalet, Port Dickson

Legend Water Chalet, Port Dickson

We decided to go on a short road trip to Port Dickson, just to get away from the city for the weekend.

Heh, you can see my husband collecting his  rod

We checked into Legend Water Chalet, which is a real good place to stay in PD. Why? Because for starters all their chalets are built on water stills

Nice? And if that’s not enough, the chalets were also pretty unique. When you open the door, you actually see the bath tub first!!! Yes, you walk straight into the bathroom before heading to the bedroom :)

Open air shower anyone? Although it’s a little tad creepy when you’re taking a shower at 2 a.m in the morning and can’t help but notice that ’something’ might be peeking at you from up there. Maybe it’s just me being weird! Still a good experience though.

And then you have the room, which was small but cozy and romantic for two. There’s also a day bed near the window if you wish to do some serious thinking or even read a book :)

The husband grabbed the camera and told me to give the cutest smile ever and so I did….I think, hahaha

Oh and the day bed is good for some weekend romancing too ;)

My only gripe about the room is that it doesn’t come with a proper dressing table in the room itself! Infact, there are no mirrors in the room at all. If  you were not born with great hair (like me!), standing in front of the dressing table in the bathroom (that doesn’t come with a chair to sit on mind you) drying your hair can be quite annoying.  And let’s not mention that it’s not cooling enough after a hot bath which I SO enjoy.

The other feature is the small but cute patio that overlooks the ocean.

Great place for fishing too. And I never knew the husband was into fishing – sometimes it’s amazing how we keep learning new things about our partners, even after years of being together. Well as long it’s the good stuff! And not something out there like how he used to like men before or along those lines, haha.

Nothing like a few drinks before bringing out the rod :)

And this went on even after dinner. The fishing, not the drinking :p

He didn’t managed to catch a single fish but that didn’t stop him from attempting it the next morning

Not feeling too happy that he couldn’t catch a single thing, poor baby!

Feeling a little dejected, we made our way home. And that’s also a sad face for leaving Legend Water Chalet so soon.

But guess what, I’m pretty sure we’ll be back soon because we  spotted the Legend International Water Homes that comes with your own freaking private pool overlooking the ocean!!! How amazing is that?

Toilet Manners

Toilet Manners

I swear we have nincompoops of the highest degree working in my building.

Today I went to the restroom only to be greeted by a pad sitting on the tissue holder! And this isn’t the first time. The other unlucky time, it had blood on it!! Dirty blood that came out off someone’s bloody bloodied dirty smelly vagina!!!

Then yesterday, in the same cursed cubicle some bitch decided she’d leave some faeces on the freaking floor which left a major stink in the toilet for hours!! I noticed it looked like it was also stepped on.

Some say the worst of toilets are found in China

But I say they obviously have yet to see the spawn of Malaysian satans who leave their demonic droppings in my building. What sort of hygiene do these dirty females (if you can even call them that) have anyway???

NONE obviously! Malaysians are just so horrid at keeping public toilets clean. We should be on the damn list, we SO should.

Even my dog knows how to carefully do his number 1 and 2 nicely on the tray provided for him.

Btw totally unrelated but screw  Chippendale, so what if they came to SG recently and entertained a bunch of old aunties. Thunder From Down Under  is the ONLY way to go. They make me want to pack up and go to OZ now :)
