Mom’s The Word

30 Nov

MOM. Or Mum.

A simple word out of a child’s mouth that can melt any woman’s heart.

Except my little one uttered those words about 2.5 weeks ago @ 13 months and have been doing so every since  :D *does the happy dance*

Before this it has always been daddie daddie daddie and I admit, it used to annoy the crap out of me coz I was the one who would wake up at night to put her back to sleep when she cries, I’m the one who she insist carries her when she refuses to sit in her stroller when we’re out at the mall, I’m the one she wants to hold when she wants some comforting while rejecting her daddy, yet she would call out to her old man from time to time. He would rub it in sometimes. Of course he did. Men are real dicks sometimes.

I’d sit her down on the bed and teach her to call me mom ‘mom mom mom……….mommie mommie mommie’ I would go on like a freakin mad woman broken record. This would go on for a few minutes because I believed the more I drilled those glorious words into her tiny head she would eventually say it out loud and all will be good in my world. 5 minutes usually goes by and God knows I would have uttered those words like a  hundred times and you know what she would say?

“BABY”!!!!!! and then proceed to giggle away!!

Mad mother: Can you say Momm……mommieee, mooooooom

Sairah: Baby!! Baby!!

Yes, even that child mocked me so much that I was starting to think father-daughter were ganging up against me on purpose.

And it didn’t help that some people were so proud with the fact that my child was calling out for her father instead of me and even asked  me several times why doesn’t she call me mom.

Honestly how do I even answer that??!

Naturally I said it’s because we always teach her at home to call Daddie, it’s always where’s daddie, ask daddie and she picked it up. As a mom, I’m always in front of her face, so all she needs to do is cry a little and I’m there next to her.

Silence.

BAH!

But now, it’s mom mom mom mom who’s-daddy mom mom mom, daddy-who mom mom mom to the point of it being over-whelming.

Sairah: Mooooom

Not-So-Crazy-Mom-Anymore: Sairaaaaah

Sairah: Moooooooom

Not-So-Crazy-Mom-Anymore: Sairaaaaah

Sairah: Mooooom

Yes and that can go on for a cool 5 minutes.

And she sounds the CUTEST when she’s calling out for me. No words can describe the feeling!!

Screw what people have to say. Who cares if I wasn’t the first parent she called out for. Who damn cares. I”m enjoying every second of this.

This is the best feeling ever.

*does the happy happy happyyyy dance again*

Never Say Never

29 Nov

Never Say Never

To the possibility of combining the weirdest ingredients because that’s how awesome fusion food is derived from :D TRUE STORY! Yes, this is yet another cooking post.

If you follow my cooking/baking post closely, fusion food is something I’m comfortable making and have never said no to it. Fusion food is also vastly available in KL because every restaurants finds a way to push the boundaries on what fusion food should be. Which is why restaurants like Pasta Zanmai, Kim Gary with a whole other restaurant that has fusion food on its menu (sorry ah, too lazy to list em out, just to take a stroll at the mall and you’d know) has since cropped up in Malaysia.

Fusion food is akin to an inter-racial marriage. It encompasses all the makings of a good dish, which if you insist I make the comparison:  it’s like a child of a mixed marriage who inherits the best features from both parents/races. They’re usually oh so gorgeous and yummy to look at! Same goes with fusion food that is a hit. YUMMY to the core. And gorgeous to look at.

At the same time I”ll also agree that some fusion food can also be a miss :D

But I say it’s mostly a hit provided the ingredients are not too weird-ish.

Anyway, it was on Food Network that I came across this recipe. YUP, I’m a true loyal Food Network fan now (wait till you see the other dishes I’ve managed to whip up on the weekend from this site, so PROUD of myself). When I first saw the ’secret’ ingredient, I went what the fish?? Infact when I told BabySis how I made the yummiest mac and cheese ever with some  Thai Red Curry paste (yes you read that right), she was gobsmacked stunned!

And I bet you are too :)

Bake my lil red curry paste filled mac and cheese soldiers! The sauce on it’s own was heavenly which is why I was reluctant to bake em given how I don’t have good luck when baking + breadcrumbs is concerned.

And this is what a mother does while waiting for dinner to bake, on a weekday.

Yes I made this last Wednesday, on a working day.

And I’ve cut a sharper fringe for my little one. Almost China doll like (obviously not quite for I am not a hair stylist – always wanted to be one though but boo). You like?

But what do you know, it came out suprisingly beautiful!

A tinge of spiciness to go with the cheese sauce! Would make any Indian mouth happy :)

ALL GONE!

I made 3 ramekin bowls filled with mac and cheese and the hubby gobbled up BOTH! He usually watches what he eats but this time……..he just wanted moreee!

Geez mom, daddy can eat like a damn pig! Where does he put it??!

Yes baby girl, and you’ll soon realize that the key in making a man happy is truly through his stomach.

:D

P.s: Recipe will follow in the next post coz I’ve adopted it into my own version and extended it further :D

Southern Comfort Y’all

Southern Comfort Y’all

Food that is, not the drink

Just when the husband thought I was gonna whip out my tomyam fried rice again, I managed to get my cooking mojo back and decided to cook something new. I have to say this choice of recipe was influenced by my mom’s crazy obsession for the Food Network show on Astro. She knows every single chefs name that is featured and regularly watches it.

I suspect the only reason my daughter loves uttering maam maam is because of this :D

I almost don’t watch these shows because watching tv is a luxury for me so I did the next best thing and sourced for it online. Chosen chef: The Neelys!

I chose Tony’s chicken tenders with honey mustard sauce, (though mine looked more like chicken nuggets, heh) only coz it looked yummy and easy. Southern food yo, I knew straight way this would go straight to the hips be comfort food.

You can find the original recipe here. I however left out the flour, used chicken fillet instead and increased the spices to 1 tablespoon each with some paprika powder too.

As for the sauce, I forgot we didn’t have Dijon and ended up using yellow mustard. I found the sauce a bit too sweet since I followed it to the tee so perhaps it’s best to lessen the honey. I’m guessing it’s partially my fault too since Dijon mustard is known to be more flavorful and tasty.

Overall, a pretty satisfying meal, even the hubby said so. A comfort food for sure, and best served it with a side of potatoes, which is the hubby’s favorite. And Sairah too. She loves her potatoes with cheese so when I made this for dinner it was like killing two birds with one stone

AND I’m sooooooo in love with Japenese panko breadcrumbs. They are the bomb!! I’ve been using the usual breadcrumbs before and it’s always been a hate-hate relationship coz for starters, I find the crumbs burning too fast before the meat is even cooked.

With panko, it’s different (hah, I sound like I”m talking about a new boyfriend isn’t it, heh). You can deep fry it for a long time and yet the crumbs don’t burn easily. It only becomes extra cripsy in any event, which is the way we love it. I’m hooked. A real panko fan now. Now I know why most online recipes keeping harping on using panko breadcrumbs!!

I’m going to try this recipe again for sure, but this time, get Dijon Mustard and lessen the honey for the sauce.

Heck I think you can even grill chicken breast and drizzle this sauce over and it will be a hit. Easy peasy.

Since I got my mojo back, I’m hoping this long weekend I’ll find it in me to make some home-made ice cream and test out a few other recipes from this site.

Wish me luck!

P.s: If you have a really good Honey Mustard sauce recipe that you swear by then please…..do share!

A Jolly Good Weekend

A Jolly Good Weekend

I”m serious about the title  Now say that in the thickest Indian accent

Our weekends are usually filled with fun trips to the mall with Baby Sairah in tow. But last weekend, we took a short break from nappy duties and headed out two days in a row at night!! And by that if you thought we went clubbing or partying then you’re wrong! Coz I’ll be first to admit that all that doesn’t excite us anymore. True story :D

Of course these lil outings were made possible thanks to mom who graciously baby-sat bear bear for us until we got home so thank you mom for letting these two jakuns have some adult clean fun :) We don’t normally do this but it’s been ages since we went out and did something so this was a nice change……..but of course, we sure did miss her!

Hi, I’m about to whip out some serious singing yo coz the last time we went for a karaoke night out was in May!

Naturally cousin Rosy is always the FIRST to get into the spirit……..and he’s always in charge of picking out the songs. The Bangla of the group if you must

Sooo much emotions put into this song!

Some guitar hero wannabe action going on!

Total Bill: RM0 coz RedBox knows I”m such a VVIP :) The deal is still available on MyDeal if you’re keen :D

Last year, I attended the first Kings and Queen Of Comedy show with Nicole & Mimi. It was sooo hillarious that I was afraid for my C-Sect stitches. So when Nicole told me they were having another show this year, I was bent on going. Unfortunately the hubby tagged along on Saturday and was being a bit cheap (we have a baby now he reasons) so we bought the cheapest tickets and sat right at the end!

Oh hai, I”m a cheapo, har har!

Bad seats aside, we had a blast!! The Kings were hillarious and of course Queen Joanna was awesome too. Since we don’t have that many women comedian, I’m curious to know which Queen will take over IF they have a show again next year. We’ll I’m hoping it will be Kumar again! :D  S(he)’s awesome!

We had alot of laughters but I would say for me, Sugar Sammy was the highlight of the show. I”ve previously seen his work on Youtube and found him hillarious. Not only is he super funny (think Russell Peters), he was quite the looker as well. The ladies definitely went nuts.

Like so……….

And so…….I saw some after-party photos on FB and my oh my, ladies were indeed all over him :D  But the annoying part was the hubby, who for starters kept sticking on to me like glue AND to top it off,  told me to quickly jump in to take a photo with him like the rest of em. Girls were literally jumping in to take a photo with him.

Like HELLO, some of us actually have ego pride and must be maintain cool okie. Different story if it was John Abraham coz I would have clawed my way through! :D

Of course, I waited and waited like a fool until no other bitch woman jumped in front, then only I graciously posed for a photo. With pride in tact.  I am afterall a mother :)

See, so much composure and calm-ness despite standing next to a hottie.

That’s how real women roll, heh.

Looking forward to the show again next year!

For more photos, check the album out here and see if you can spot my blurred out I’m-too-cool-for-this face.

To keep yourselves updated about the latest comedy shows, like this page. because life should be filled with laughter even if you have to pay for it.

Wokeh bye! Now say that in the thickest Indian accent :D

Baby Dates

21 Nov

Baby Dates

I love dressing up my bear-bear in a two-piece attire for playdates. I think it’s the perfect get-up for a baby toddler to move around. Nothing to fussy or would constraint her movements since she loves to shuffle around :D

All set for a playdate maam.

Butterfly Top: Bought by Daddy in Perth at Target.

Black leggings: A gift from hubby’s aunt from Guam. It’s part of a Carter’s set.

Sandals: From my Bestie Wylane, bought in Jakarta.

Clip: Bought by SIL in Turkey.

My baby girl’s outfit is quite international for someone who was ‘made’ locally, lol.

Hah, it’s tough thesedays attempting to put on any headbands or clips on Missy hence which is why you hardly see her in any.

Her playdate, who can officially semi-sit now that he’s 6 months!

See the look he’s giving her? Too cute.

Maam maam? She tends to want to feed her bears and us with anything she can think of, even when it’s not real food. No baby girl, he can’t eat that plastic toy.

Oh hi mom

My baby REALLY does love other kids/babies. She kept saying babbbbieee MANY times!

She loves him that much!

She helped him turn on that toy coz it’s his fav!

HAHAHAHA trust my baby girl to do something like that

Went for a quick coffee break in CoffeeBean after that…

Her fringe is growing longer already! I told the hubby she most definitely has inherited my hair-gene where it growns FAST each month :D

Haha and no, she didn’t have any, she still hasn’t mastered the art of sipping from a straw

Thank you Aunty Madhu for the wonderful pink dress from Melbourne :)

And about 2 weeks ago, we got to meet one of my reader who lives in the UK.  She was down for a month’s holiday. We previously e-mailed each other with so much juicy stories so it was nice to finally meet her.

Where’s my new friend? Hah, a biscuit to keep her busy!

There he is.  He’s about a month younger than Sairah and totally adorable!

A Group photo!

Kisses from both sides. Babies thesedays! And it’s officially, Sairah has more boy baby friends than girls!

Thank you for the beautiful dress. We hope to see you soon sometime again!

Now I know where to stay for free IF we ever go to the UK, hehe :D

I humbly welcome more play date proposals, ahem, so email me :D
