The Haunting Of A Pumpkin Patch Dress

21 Mar

Have you ever had a piece of cloth haunt the living day lights out of you?

About a month ago the family and cousins went out for dinner in Bangsar Village. We were just strolling around when I walked into Pumpkin Patch for the first time and saw this beautifullllll pink and blue dress that screamed PERFECT for Baby Sairah. If there’s ever such a thing then yes it was indeed love at first sight for me (though I’m not sure how that dress felt about me, I hope it was mutual, heh). I flipped to check the price, all eager to grab it and pay at the counter when the figure RM109 stared back at me. FARK, RM109 for something this tiny? ABSURD! I walked out, feeling bummed that it was THAT expensive. Heck even I don’t splurge and buy clothes worth RM109 for myself okay. Bags yes, but not clothes.

I tried reasoning very hard that it’s RM109 because it’s branded, it’s from Australia, the material is soft to the touch and of high quality, your baby girl deserves this, she’ll love you more, she’ll look so adorable in this, that’s how much baby dresses cost in Malaysia, just look at the color combination on this one woman, you won’t find something similar online or in a different shop, why are you so stingy, just splurge damnit……….nope, didn’t work, my legs and wallet didn’t budge (and more importantly my will power and discipline was quite strong that it really took me by surprise) so I went home empty handed and I thought that was the end of it.

But NO.  That was just the beginning.

That damn dress haunted me every day for the past one month. Quite randomly I would think of that dress, images of how my baby girl would look like it in would pop, out of the blue. We would go to other malls I would instinctively look out for Pumpkin Patch, walk in to see if the same dress was there, and I would see it, touch it, flip again to double check the price and see if there’s a discount and pretty much walk out without it, not wanting to pay the said amount for this dress. Crazy much? Yes indeed.

Can’t believe a damn dress has that much power over me. I blame it on motherhood, really!!

Then about a few days ago the husband said he got his bonus. Granted most of the money is already going for the apartment renovation and the damn cost of it keeps going up, I put on my thickest bravest skin and asked him what’s he going to buy his baby girl? I obviously didn’t give him a second to think (coz it was probably going to be something stupid and irritable like ‘let’s get her more milk or diapers’ damn bloody essentials are not what you splurge your bonus on okay?), so I told him about the dress and YES, with a straight face, extended my hands while wriggling my fingers and said, RM110 pleaseeee. My sister who was standing next to me just went ‘eeee no shame’, haha :D

The husband disappears and a few minutes later, handed RM130 to me and when I told him the dress was RM110 only, he said  ‘keep the change’. I don’t know if I should have smacked him or indulge in his sick humor but what the heck, I got what I wanted and was THRILLED over such an accomplishment.

The haunting have since stopped and I have my peace of mind once again.

This baby is much more gorgeous in person. Even the Sister is in LOVE with it :D

Just look at the girly color combo. Absolutely SWEET! I got her the 12-18 months one so we can stretch it a little longer. I’m obviously going to maximise every single freaking cent of it so excuse me if this baby wears this dress almost every other day! It was also the ONLY  piece in that size left *bliss*

I got her a customized matching headband too, EVEN before getting this dress.

One happy baby. I haven’t put the dress on her yet though coz it’s just too gorgeous.

Oh and if you really must know, I spent the balance of RM20 on cupcakes at Bisou, heeh.

Hahaha… enjoyed this entry through and through.

Yeah I know the feeling, except mine is with PS3 games, mostly. =P. Though I have since learned and to a certain extend, mastered the ability to exorcise the haunting.

But, for the record, that is indeed one LOVELY dress! Even I could not say no to it if I have a daughter.

Haha thanks and glad I’m not the only one who’s a bit lunny when it comes to these things :p Wouldn’t hurt for you to share how to exorcise these hauntings either coz I”m sure it’s bound to happen again :)

I absolutely adore this dress so thanks :) We have the same taste then!

Ohh I know that feeling. I get it all the time – not on babies clothing – usually on shoes that are in the glass display at two of my favourite shoe stores here.

The dress is GORGEOUS. But that’s expected since you do have lovely taste. Even after Sairah has outgrown it, you should keep it. Maybe you can frame it in the future with the matching headband :)

Well that’s coz you’re a shoe-shopaholic :p Hehehe. I guess it’s a typical ‘want’ thing, where you’re just not satisfied until you get it.

Thanks thanks. Ever since getting married and getting fat, my dress sense have taken a back seat. So I figured I might as well channel all that energy on baby clothes for Sairah instead, hehe. Yea I think I’ll do just about it. Really am in love with the dress :)

I’m sure your motivation to dress up and all will kick back in eventually. Being a working mother is a challenge – especially if you don’t have a personal trainer, personal chef and an entourage of people to do your worrying for you. You’re not fat, you just had a baby. Cut yourself some slack :) You’ve already slimmed down so much as it is.

You know I’d love to go shopping with you – you have such nice taste :)

That’s true but thesedays there is little time to actually dress up coz we’re constantly rushing to settle the baby first, hehe. Anyway I dont care much about what I wear as long I have something on me and covering my wobbly bits, lol. In due time perhaps.

YES please, I can help pick out some awesome stuff for you. Bring your credit card pleaseee :)

Nowadays, baby clothes are damn expensive. :( Not back in our days, we were wearing handing down clothes.

Glad that u got the dress for Sairah, say a big thank you to your hubby. W/O him, I think you will still pout. :)

Cant wait for the dress to be put on baby Sairah.

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:41 pm #

Yes everything is expensive nowadays. My sister got the hand-me down clothes coz I was first born, hehe.

Ah yes, a big thank you to him of course :) I can’t wait to dress her up in it too.

Oh the dress is adorable! Cant wait to see her in it. Post photos quick!! Baby clothes are so expensive nowadays… I remember following my sis to buy a bday dress for my niece for her 1st bday, we went to Party Princess, Chateau de Sable in Gardens and Lovely Lace… My bro in law was stunned at how so little cloth (since its small) can cost so much. Seriously, i’ll think twice to spend that amount for myself, but when it comes to kids, we just spend, right?

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:43 pm #

Thanks babe. Will try to model it on her soon :) Tried to do so the other day but missy was a tad cranky. Tell me about it, I’ve been to al that places too and it feels like you could buy more clothes for yourself with the same amount instead of spending it for a baby who will outgrow it anytime. But of course you’re right coz parents do not hesitate to spend on their kids and choose to stinge when it comes to us :p

I bet she will look great on it. It looks classy enough :o).

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:43 pm #

Thanks. You were there when I picked it, hehehe

I don’t have kids and (not but) I sympathize with you. Was at Metro on Sat with my aunt and when I saw the price of kids toys and clothes….PENGSAN ! RM100 buys your child almost nothing !

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:44 pm #

Exactly Val which is why I LOVE shopping in Manila for babies. Anyway your mom seriously should start aggresively marketing her clothes online, I’m sure there will be lots of parents who will buy it.

love the color and it feels soft to touch… i just can imagine…

i get the same hauntings and sleepless nights when i used to see nice blouse/jeans/shoes at the mall, now i get the same feelings over baby diapers… LOL situations change but habits dont!

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

LOL you’re totally right, we’re still shopaholics except we do it for our babies now. You have an awesome baby diapers collection, Sanju must have a big wardrobe for a boy :)

Used to get minor hauntings when it came to shoes, but nothing beats the Horrific Hauntings of that thing called the KitchenAid. Haunted me a for a good 2 years! :P

    • TheMissusBlogs 23. Mar, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

LOL wow and to think you got it after 2 years? How did you ever sleep well for the past 2 years? Hehehe. But you must be glad it’s all over now and that Kitchen Aid has literally come to your aid for good :)

      • whimsicaljottings 23. Mar, 2011 at 9:56 pm #

So I was at the mall today, and what do I see in front of me? Pumpkin Patch. Being the nosey Parker kaypohchee curious cat I am, I went right in and looked for that dress. It’s sooo pweeety! I hope I’m not cause you some cognitive dissonance here, but the salesgirl told me that there was a 20% discount or something going on for that dress, 25% if you’re a member. I sure hope you got that discount! If not, you didn’t hear this from me! :P

  9. whimsicaljottings 23. Mar, 2011 at 9:57 pm #

    *gonna cause you

    • TheMissusBlogs 24. Mar, 2011 at 9:42 am #

LOL, you know I woulda done the same too :p It’s gorgeous isn’t it? Well the lady said you only get 20% off IF you buy two dresses. I looked around to get her something else but couldn’t find anything plus I really didn’t feel like splurging even more so just settled with that one dress. I will be PISSED though if there’s like a 50% clearance on that dress come stock clearance sale :(

omg! i love this particular posting coz i went thru the same thing!!! i’ve been stalking a particular dress from pumpkin patch at bangsar village for my 7 month bb girl..the top part is stripe white and blue with a cute lil bow and it has a white tutu attached to it..the perfect balance of sweetness..the price?rm139.00!!!hoping that it would be on offer i’d go in every other week to check….until i discovered that they had run out of the smallest size (12-18 months) and a check in their system shows that there there are fast running out of that size in all of their outlets..i finally caved in, and bought the damn dress at their 1U outlet and it was their last piece..im am now rm139 poorer but i can sleep in peace ;)

    • TheMissusBlogs 25. Apr, 2012 at 9:55 am #

Thanks! Hahaha pumpkin patch does seem to produce gorgeous dresses don’t they? I’m not liking the price though. Even during the sale they are still expensive. The dress you got for your daughter sounds gorgeous!! But RM140 is definitely pricey, esp when its just for a tiny item. Heck even I dont pay that much for my clothes. But I guess once in a while wont hurt, esp if the dress has been haunting us and like you said, makes us sleep in peace now. Your baby’s a lucky girl.
