Renovation Update

Renovation Update

I got to inspect our apartment’s renovation progress over the weekend. It was such a horrible sight and site with almost everything stripped naked. You could see dust, sand, cement and more dust everywhere and it really did look like a new apartment that’s being constructed from scratch.

There is a whole lot more work to be done that’s for sure!

I admit I’ve not been hands-on with the renovation because unlike the husband, I don’t have the flexibility at work where I can get in late or leave as I wish to see things through. Hence I am thankful that my dad is playing a HUGE part in helping out with the renovation works almost everyday. The not-so-street-smart husband would be very lost if it wasn’t for the extra help since my dad is very apt with these things.

So far, the only thing that’s close to remotely finished is the balcony and bathrooms.

A while ago when the husband went alone to a store to pick out some tiles, the saleswoman told him up front that she will not quote him a price until he brings the wife. Her reason? She was sick and tired of husbands picking stuff out on their own, only to have their wives argue later and change the tiles/design and everything else.

Obviously I can’t understand why couples would fight over TILES when there are far much worse things in life happening around the world. Makes you wonder……

Having some confidence in the husband, I let the man pick out the tiles on his own AFTER approving the color scheme. I’ve always had a fascination with black and white designs for an apartment hence I was game with a darker color scheme for some parts of the apartment.

He had earlier told me he wanted some mosaic design for the shower area so I assumed it was going to be in the light-dark grey color scheme. At worse, off blue to complement the grey tiles. I wasn’t really big on the whole idea but had  some sort of confidence that his idea would turn out good.

Behold the husband’s brilliant idea. Yes-I-am-being-sarky.

I dunno man, I’m not really digging it coz it gives a very 50s-60s old-ish feel to it? He said to wait till the entire bathroom is completed first before hating it so I’m doing just about that :D

The only argument we’ve had to date regarding the apartment (and touchwood it ends there) was the baby’s room. We initially agreed for the middle room to be Sairah’s little crib. And I already have brilliant ideas for her room.  But then someone just had to suggest we use the smaller room for her (since she will be spending most of the time in our bedroom anyway he reasons) so he can accommodate his stupid work desk and have a guest room in the middle room as it’s slightly bigger.

Needless to say, I was furious that he saw the need to put these so-called guest and blast it work space FIRST instead of giving my baby the better room.

I might have hit below the belt when I told him he wasn’t running a big business to demand his own office space and if he wanted a freaking desk at the comfort of his home he’d buy a bloody huge house with enough rooms to go by and not a  3 bedroom apartment.

B-I-T-C-H-Y I know (but you have to admit,  my points are valid), needless to say boys and girls, I won the argument and after coming to his senses (and it was within minutes so I don’t know if it was his sense or just his way of ending the argument quickly avoiding an escalation, who cares, I won, HA HA), he agreed his idea wasn’t so great but not before blurting out ‘now I know what the sales girl meant by couples fighting over these things’.

That was the day folks that I felt like clawing those eyeballs out. But fret not for all’s good in my world again.

His eyeballs are safe for now.

Maldives

Maldives

17 February 2011 – 23 February 2011

We’ve been enjoying the sand, sun and sea for the past few days in Maldives. The husband got this as an anniversary gift last year. I call this the Honeymoon Version 3.0, 3 representing our three years together as husband and wife :D And boy has it been a journey of sorts.

Honestly I dont even know where to start. The whole experience and trip was beyond amazing.  Maldives ranks the best beach holiday I’ve ever been to. One thing for sure without a doubt, we missed Sairah like CRAZY and have vowed to bring her here in a few years time. *promise*

On board MAS. It’s been a longgggg time since I set foot in KLIA or MAS for that matter, haha. The husband had to refrain me from taking out the wallet everytime we got served food or drinks, lol.

Still had pork and alcohol in the hotel :D

The airport with a view

Note the expression…..

Coz he had to fork out USD16 just for this meal. Maldives is indeed expensive!!

Our sauces made it to Maldives yo! You’ll find many Malaysian products here. And it’s absolutely BORING to shop here coz all you see is Malaysian products. Sheesh.

All on board! Boat transfer was over-the-top expensive @ USD150 a pop!! We could have literally bought tickets to Bangkok or Bali.

Nevertheless we were lucky that there were only another couple on board with us so it made it somewhat private and worth it

Have you seen water this blueeee???! At this point, we were getting anxious to arrive the hotel just to see how the island looks like.

Took us 40 minutes before we arrived Holiday Inn Kandooma.

We’re in Maldives bitches!

The breathtaking view.

Can you believe GOD created this?

Why can’t we get water this blue in PD? WHY?!

The reception area where we were given some refreshments.

As we arrived at 10 a.m in the morning, the hotel was kind enough to let us check in early, talk about fantastic service. And if that wasn’t enough……

We got upgraded to a private villa!!!! Talk about being lucky :D

The villa was perfect in every way…

From the lounging area outside where the hubby drank his beers and smoked his cigar

To the outdoor shower (though I could do away with the green walls)

The bed was the most comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on

*refusing to budge from the bed*

To the little details like an Ipod dock so we could play some music :)

Oh how I loved the outdoor rain shower

Peekaboo, we can see you…

Even the citrus juicer got us excited. Fresh and free orange juice everyday, mmm, mmm, I could live like this everyday!

And to think that this was suppose to be our ‘home’ for that 5 days. LOVE the idea of upgrades.

I would say that the major highlight of the villa was the balcony! For starters, it overlooked the Indian Ocean. I loved every minute I had on that balcony. I loved waking up in the morning to the sound and sight of the ocean. All I had to do was draw open the curtains, lie on my bed and in return I was rewarded with the most gorgeous view one could ever ask for.

After a swim in the ocean,  I would come back and plonk myself on the balcony while enjoying a whole pot of tea to myself as I ponder about life. The husband of course would spend his time downstairs having his cans of beer, no complains there coz I enjoyed my me-time!

We also dined in on one of those days. Talk about being anti-social.

But the moon was simply amazing that night. Couldn’t get more romantic than that.

Even the workaholic husband enjoyed the balcony as he worked away.  Life of a business analyst, tsk….

But they do work hard and play harder, haha :)

Did lots and lots of swimming too

Oooh who’s that girl, nanananana

Just me :p

Water so crystal clear you can see your chipped pedicure

3 years and counting…..

Complimentary snorkelling

Now this part was the hardest. Saying bye to this wonderful piece of heaven. It was a 5 day trip of pure relaxation with nothing much to do or crack our heads about. It takes about 20 minutes to cover the entire island by foot. We did alot of sleeping, swimming, talking, sleeping and honestly, it’s something I wouldn’t mind doing once a year, for at least a week for a little rejuvenation.

Now it’s back home with a REALLY bad tan….

A sight we already miss so much

As we were heading back to the airport island, we came across DOLPHINS! They actually have a USD40 dolphin tour, but we had ours for free, hehe. The Captain was too kind to stop the boat and let us take photos of  this beautiful and rare sight.

They say dolphins bring you luck, so here’s hoping I’ll hit the jackpot (yes yes same ol same ol) soon so we can come back to Maldives with Sairah!

The Ugly-Duckling Home

31 Jan

The Ugly-Duckling Home

6 months, 6 freaking months! That’s how long it takes to get ownership of a property in Malaysia these days.

Anyway, now that episode is over, we officially got our keys to the apartment!

Whenever they say ‘handing over of keys’ I always imagine a little ceremony where the ex-owner passes the keys to the new owner as he cuts the red ribbon before proceeding to go into the new apartment.  The rest of us will clap happily and proceed to go in to sip some champagne while munching on finger food while ooooh-ing and aaah-ing at the new crib.

Alas, these kinds of things only happen in my head and not in reality.

In reality, all you have is an annoying wife forcing you to look at the camera as you open the door (and men as you know absolutely cannot multi-task, tsk)

And if you’re lucky, your BabySis and cousins will be looking over cheering you on, grinning from one end to the other for no apparent reason.

And if you’re Indian, it takes two people to open a door :D ….

And 3 male cousins to help you move your shit, even if you just live next door!

Everyone was pre-warned earlier itself of the apartment’s nasty condition to avoid any heart attack. The whole place literally needs to be knocked off before it can be even called a decent home. But then again, if you’re paying below market price, at least about RM40k cheaper, these are the litte things you’ll have to put up with!

The previous owner took no liberty whatsoever to renovate the place since she bought it in 1995.  Thus we have this present condition to put up with.  JOY!

So come, let me give you a little tour of our shitty-ugly-duckling-soon-to-be-awesome pad.

Here’s the kitchen – soon-to-be a place where I’ll be cooking away my baby’s solids. I’ve not cooked in 4 bloody months!

Note the broken tiles, charming isn’t it? Gives the place an antique feel :D

The living room:

Cracks on the wall…..

Balcony obviously.

It wasn’t me!

The rooms:

More cracks….just great!

Now for the ugly rusty old toilets

I could puke right about now.

Banglas hard at work moving boxes :p Goodbye old rented apartment, it was never really a home for certain reasons :)

I couldn’t help much given my ‘disc degeneration’ problem hence I was promoted to supervisor :)

Roshan just dicking around, as usual.

UP.

DOWN. Ok now get to work!

After all that hard work (no pun intended, lol) , the husband tooks us all out for lunch. On him. There’s got to be some incentive and reward after a good job done, no? Supervisor included :)

So there, a tour of OUR first new home. If you went ewww what a shit-hole. I dont freaking blame you. I would gladly double your ewww. But I would like to think of the apartment as an ugly duckling right now, just waiting and itching to be converted into a beautiful swan.  Reminds me of how I looked like back then but that’s a different story altogether. It does deserve a second chance, really.

Quotation for renovation takes place tomorrow, pray that we won’t have to resort to a second job! Or worse, a third one.

P.s: Thanks guys for the helping us out. You guys are awesome and mmmm, probably will need your help later on too!

He Turns Three Three

26 Jan

He Turns Three Three

So my husband turned thirty three yesterday. Saying that does make me feel a WHOLE lot younger as I’m barely in that age group, ahem :)

Big kiss for Baby Sairah when he got home :D

For weeks, I was cracking my precious head on what to get that man. And God knows how I’ve bugged my Baby Sis and Bestie Wylane into giving me their opinions. From a shopping spree to a watch, to a spa session……I just couldn’t come up with the perfect gift for him as most of it have been already done with previously. Shopping for a man IS tough! But of course there’s no denying that it would have been MUCH easier if you’re swimming in cash!

Naturally……….I left his gift to the VERY last minute coz hey that’s how most awesome gift ideas are conceived :) Usually.

I applied for half day off and did some running around Mid Valley to get everything sorted. Couldn’t help but squeeze in a quick pedicure for my toes which were looking very banshee-like before the treatment okie.  Got it done in JJ Nails and damn I want to open a nail parlour one day. Place was packed!

Red was the color of choice in view of CNY just around the corner.

Anyhos, the hubster got home around 6ish and we proceeded to cut his cake. Poor thing actually called me much earlier just to give me the heads up that he had cancelled all his night meetings so if I want to take him out to dinner I could, LOL, no shame! I was actually opting for something more quiet this time around.

Got it from Zen (Thanks Wylane for recommending!), it was only RM55 – perfect cake for a small family.

Baby Sairah looks very happy here, probably thought it was her birthday, lol

Of course Baby Sairah gets the first itty bitty piece, then only the wife :p

Family photo!

Ok we’ll just leave half of daddy’s old face off coz there’s just way too many photos of him :p

My precious lil baby. Poor thing has been shedding alot of hair lately.

Then came the best part of all: The gifts!

First a card from the both of us….

Actually the most handsome man I know is John Abraham, but what the heck, must be nice to him at least once a year innit.

Priceless expression. Wanna know what I got him? Scroll down will ya….

TADA!

He was really excited about it coz he has seen them in action many times on the way back from work! And the guy was kind enough to offer me the voucher before I even made payments just so I could suprise my husband (I’m assuming he is Alexandar and Phillipa Yoong’s brother coz they share the same surname). Awesome service, really! Was SO close on getting him drifting classes (since he loves cars!), but safety issue was a major concern now that we have a baby :)

Daddy enquiring who dipped his baby’s feet in lipstick just to get Sairah’s foot print.

For the record, it was Baby Sister’s idea although it was Sairah’s mommy who carried the task out! My baby has really ticklish feet, just like her father.

Next up, the other gift.

Yay for his favorite perfume!

After opening the pressies, we got to eat yummy food cooked by mom, thanks mommie! Always can count on my family :D

5 years and counting…..

Nah the face of someone who was so exhausted at the end of it. Walking around Mid Valley lugging bags of items isn’t fun as it used to be. I hate it.  Maybe I just hate shopping alone coz there’s no one to carry my bags. Heck I even dropped some stuff but luckily a kind lady helped me out.

Ok now that his birthday is done and over with………I’m going to spend the next few months planning my precious baby’s 1st Birthday. Ain’t going to leave this one to the last minute for sure!

The New Phone

21 Jan

The New Phone

My crappy old phone was giving me some problems, constantly shutting itself down whenever I needed to use it the most. I was contemplating getting a new phone but couldn’t make up my mind on which one to get. So I did some research online and finally decided on one. Ah the life of an online shopaholic –  deciding on phones without testing them physically, haha, what is this world coming to thesedays?!

Anyway I commissioned my dad to find out the bestest best price available, only coz he’s friends with almost everyone in this world AND can get the bestest best deal around. I kid you not. He’s our go-to-man in the house!

I came back from work rather tired last week only to be greeted by a husband who was eager to go to PJ to buy some ‘tiles’ for our new apartment. Naturally I was a bit annoyed by his sudden plans coz I totally hate going out on weekdays thesedays! Besides, who’s going to look after the baby I asked him.

Sensing my annoyance, he had no choice but to let the cat out of the bag by saying that he had already told my dad to get the guy to reserve the phone I wanted and we were actually going there to pick it up. We were also suppose to do dinner that weekend followed by him giving me the gift. Since I was pretty close to getting it myself, the plans were somewhat altered. But seriously, this still deserves an awww moment :D

Off we went and I’m finally the new owner of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro in Black :)

Love this baby to bits! I’ve actually tried the Iphone and Blackberry and didn’t like it (besides everyone has one of those thesedays and it’s expensive to maintain each month, hmpf) so I LOVE the fact that this baby is a touch screen and type phone – having the best of both worlds :D It also comes with HD video and a pretty decent camera which was my requirement so I can take Sairah’s photos on the go (can’t be scrambling to look for the damn camera everytime) and upload them onto Facebook. Been doing that often for the past few days, god knows how many people are getting annoyed with that, haha.

Sairah’s FIRST trip to the mall, oh how she loved it! And she had alot of attention too, ahem.

Oh mommy I love going out. Yup, a mall rat she is.

Clearly a morning person – unlike her parents!

As you can see, picture quality isn’t too shabby. Plus uploading it to FB is a breeze.

I could just go on and on about this phone, but best you read here to convince yourself what a decent phone this baby is that’s amazingly priced too!

Oh and thank you hubby for the wonderful gift although it’s your birthday that’s coming up soon and not mine. Now I feel pressured to get him a nice gift!:D
