Blogger On Holiday

2 Dec

Dear Online Diary and the Ocassional Readers,

HI!

By the time most of you read this I will be away saving the Baluts because I think eating nearly developed embryos is really disgusting.

I would also like to enlighten you on the meaning of LOVE.

Love is when the husband buys a ticket for his wife because he cannot stand being away from her for 12 days.

Love is when the wife knows that and uses up her very last 4 days of annual leave (which she has been saving for another trip ok), knowing that she’ll have to brave 7 hours of travelling alone just to be with him.

And the wife knows this isn’t going to be fun since she’ll be spending most days alone by herself.

Bah, who am i kidding, I can’t wait to explore Makati City on my own.

Will try to update when I’m there. Miss me!

Off to save the Baluts. Peace.

But chop before that, something that tastes much better than those icky Baluts

My Baked Mini Overloaded-Oreo Cheesecake.

A slice of heaven :)

Too bad hubby missed out on this. Okay bye!

Cooking / Baking Phase

28 Nov

Pastas are such a delight to whip up because you honestly can’t go wrong making them. Nuh uh.

And you really have to love the Italians for this simple yet tasty dish – Spaghetti Aglio E Olio

Raid you kitchen for:

Spaghetti for two
Half cup breadcrumbs
3 clove garlic, chopped
3-4 dried chillies, chopped
Olive Oil
Hot Chilli flakes (flick a few from Dominos)
Sausages (optional)

1. Boil spaghetti until almost al dente. Drain the water leaving spaghetti with a bit of hot water in a bowl

2. On a dry pan without any oil, toast the bread crumb till it turns brown. Remove and put aside in a separate bowl

3. Add a bit of olive oil and fry the garlic and dried chillies. Make sure garlic is not burnt otherwise it will get bitter

4. Place spaghetti and a bit of water into the pan with garlic and dried chillies.

5. Drizzle as much Olive Oil as desired. But not too much.

6. Throw in cooked / microwave sausages

7. Mix everything up in pan

8. Mix in bread crumbs and chilli flakes

9. Makan.

The Results:

I understand that Spaghetti Oglio can be quite hard to make as finding a proper recipe for this is challenge itself. But guess I found the perfect recipe coz it tasted just like the ones you’d fork out RM20 for a plate in restaurants.

SO what’s a girl to do?

Share the recipe.

Hubby’s Rating: 7/10 – Pass la

Enjoy!

Wait, there’s more

I am obsessed with Toblerone chocolate – God bless the Toblerone inventors!

I baked my FIRST Toblerone Cheesecake and it turned out pretty good if I may say so myself. And the next time I fork out RM7 for a slice in a restaurant, I promise I won’t grumble/curse because I spent bloody RM40 just for the ingredients alone. Insane.

Cheesecake approved.

Guess who plans on baking a cake for her hubby’s birthday in January :)

Off to Ipoh, bye!

And She Made Her First Mousse

25 Sep

I was right – I needed that extra day off for rest. I fell sick at work yesterday so after seeing a doctor located just 2 floors upstairs from where I work; he gave me half day off, yay!

So what’s a girl to do with the extra time?

Pronounced mu:s not mouse-y okay? And not just any mousse mind you – a heavenly indulgence that makes you feel like you’ve ordered dessert from a fancy restaurant made by a chef with some hard to pronounce French name.

Step 1:

Hunt for the damn toblerones. Just my luck, all 3 places I went to had NO Toblerone in sight. Damn you Murphy!

Step 2:

Text Hubby to get it while on the way home. 5 minutes later, get a call from him asking if it’s the “crème packaging that says Toblerone Swiss Milk Chocolate with honey and almond nougat, 50gs? ” that I want.

Ugh. YES YES YES.

Step 3:

Sleep from 3pm to 7pm. Sick what.

Step 4:

Wake up with a huge urge to make chocolate mousse

Step 5:

Google the recipe and cleverly make some modifications to the recipe to suit your taste

What you’ll need:

200G that makes 4 Toblerone Chocolate.

3 Egg Whites

400ml Whipped Cream

Directions:

1) First you whisk the egg whites using an electric mixer until stiff in a bowl and keep aside

2) Then you melt the chocolate. If you’re lazy, just microwave it on low heat. For the record, I didn’t use the microwave okay?

3) While the chocolate melts, use an electric mixer and beat the whipped cream till it’s fluffy and all things nice. Don’t have an electric mixer? Then do it manually

4) While doing all that, realize what a sucky cook blogger I’d make for not taking enough pictures. People need a step by step picture guide, no?

5) Once the chocolate melts, slowly pour it into the bowl of whipped cream. Using the electric mixer, mix it well. Then fold in the egg whites and mix it manually till it beautifully combines into a delicious concoction of a sinful dessert.

6) Use mom’s dessert bowls and make a mental note to get my own

And wala – this is what it looks like before it goes into the fridge for an hour

And when it’s ready to be gobbled up

And cook blog fail if I don’t put up a picture of a hungry gross someone gulping it all down, enjoying every bits of it

He rated it: 10 out of 10, need I say more?

More over Nigella, my mousse is better than yours!

Chicken Parmigiana

6 Sep

Ok a quick one before I head out :) Managed to cook up something last night after so long. I know I’m horrid. Surfing the net during working hours sometimes does pay off, you come across good recipes like such:-

Okay I admit, it’s not pretty in presentation (note to self to work on that) but it did taste good :)

See how he’s licking his lips?

For the recipe:-

Ingredients
2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
1 egg, beaten lightly
1/2 cup italian seasoned dry bread crumb
1-2 tablespoon margarine or butter
1 3/4 cups prepared spaghetti sauce (homemade or bottled)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese, freshly grated
1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
cooked spaghetti, to serve

Directions

1. Beat egg and set into a rimmed plate.

2. Set bread crumbs in a second rimmed plate.

3. Dip chicken breasts into the egg, then into the crumbs, coating both sides and shaking off excess.

4. Melt butter or margarine over medium heat in a large, deep skillet and add some oil. Add chicken breast halves to the pan and brown on both sides – just enough to brown the chicken, not to fully cook it yet. Then try to microwave it for a good 1.5 minutes to ensure the insides of the chicken are properly cook.

5. Pour spaghetti sauce into the pan, immediately reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until the chicken has cooked all the way through, about 15-20 minutes but the time will vary depending upon the thickness and size of your chicken breasts.

6. Sprinkle with parsley and cheeses, re-cover, and simmer just until cheese melts- about 5 minutes.

7. Serve with cooked spaghetti

You can also have it without spaghetti, it’s really your choice.

See how easy it is to make? Go try it!

New Dishes

4 May

Ok so I’m really getting the hang of cooking, like seriously. I told my husband the other day that I never knew I’d see the day where I eat my OWN cooking! Haha call it lack of confidence or whatever, but I’m glad I have *some* ability to cook us a decent meal.

Let me tell you that once you’re married, you’ll actually LOVE staying at home more often. It just gives you the time to unwind and spend more time with each other. And it’s also a great time to learn how to cook new dishes.

Dishes I made over the weekend.

Vegetarian fried rice

Okay I’m SUPER proud of this one, this was seriously good and my hubby gave me a rating of 10. Yes PERFECT :)

Chinese food - ah yes I so can make chinese food and it’s quite easy to make so long you got your trusted oyster sauce with you.

Ginger Chicken

Brocolli

Beans with egg

My fav was the Brocolli while my husband loved the ginger chicken. Was quite impressed it turned out good despite my first attempt. Can’t say much about the beans tho coz it was pretty much hard so we didn’t finish it up.

All gone

Except for the beans….

Thanks mom for the recipe. Moms are the best person to ask for the recipes since it has been perfected after years of cooking :)

Moving on, I also managed to make the Masala Prawns and if you remember correctly, it was a total disaster the first time around. This time, it came out good because I didn’t buy the prawns from TMC!!

Masala Prawns

Fried potatoes with chilli

We did something we don’t usually do on saturday morning.

We were up early to have breakfast in Colliseum in KL!

You’ll usually never see us awake any time before 12pm on a Saturday, let alone have breakfast. I just had some serious craving to have B’fast there. I used to go there alot when I was a child. They have the best chicken chop there!

Oh I love the mashed potato – absolutely delish!

Cheese Omelette

What a relaxing weekend it has been. We’ve finally finished watching the entire Season 2 of Ghost Whisperer. Jennifer Love Hewitt has some seriously amazing cleavage, no wonder all the ghost go to her :)

I think they’re all natural!

I’m not sure if Season 3 is out but I sure hope it is coz we’re totally hooked on this show and it’s only going to get more interesting. I mean the show and not the cleavage ;)
