Al-Rawsha Lebanese Restaurant

28 May

Another Middle Eastern restaurant? Ok it’s Lebanese this time!

Sometimes it does feel like I’m on quest to discover the most scrumptious Middle Eastern restaurant in KL. Decided to catch up with some friends on Saturday at Al-Rawsha in Jalan Damai, Ampang.

Settings in Al-Rawsha is minimal with a very laid back environment. I love the compartments inside the restaurant where you can draw the curtains for your own privacy. Compartments in most authentic Middle Eastern restaurants are usually catered for burkha clad women so they can take it off to eat their meals.

Appetizer: Falafil and Hummus.

Found the hummus rather flat in taste but enjoyed the falafel which is their version of vegan cutlet.

Shish Tawook (grilled chicken breast)

The rest had Lamb Mandy and Khabsa which they claim was excellent.

The bill came up to about RM112 (approx RM28 a person). Cheap considering the HUGE portions which usually isn’t quite expected in the middle eastern restaurants here. So inevitably we had a lot of food wastage and yes, I REALLY didn’t think the portions were going to be huge guys so we’ll share the next time around!

The full but very happy customers:

And if you must, order the Red Mint Tea and Turkish Coffee. I don’t know what they put in there but we were laughing our heads off for 4 hours straight!! Or maybe it was just the excellent company :)

Marmalade @ Bangsar Village 2

12 May

It’s such a rare luxury to be able to meet up with your friends, esp when they have such a busy schedule ;)

My friend of 20 years, which I have not seen since I got married decided to spare a few hours of her time to meet up on Saturday. It was good to finally catch up on what’s been going on with our lives and of course to bitch about our weight and exchange notes on our ex high school friends, lol. We were never the popular ones, but we turned out pretttyyy alright didn’t we?

The Hot Chick with the new Victoria Beckham hair do:

Gosh I remember us being total tom boys and hating maths and accounts back in school. It’s a huge irony that we made banking our careers.

My Chicken Tikka sandwich which tasted more like a vegan sandwich? A total waste of $. If I wanted a vegan sandwich I wouldn’t pay RM17 for it.

Iced Chocolate – highly recommended

Apple Crumble - yum yum

The Bill: RM57

Pretty pricey for food that wasn’t so good. But the cakes looked aboslutely delicious esp the cheese cake *slurp* so I”ll definitely be heading there again just to give it a try.

The Company: Excellent. We’ll totally do a girl’s night out soon okay?

Lightning Fast

14 Apr

Sigh, another weekend came and went so fast!

Friday Night @ Planet Hollywood to celebrate Bestie’s b’day

Some nachos to fill our hungry tummies before the arrival of birthday boy who came 1 hour late – he’s ALWAYS late.

My Chicken Little Sandwich & Fries

Happy Hour – MY two long island tea and two whiskey coke :)

Hubby’s Tuna Pizza which was a disappointment – fyi – avoid!

Dheeraj’s vegetarian pizza. It’s always fun to see how he swears whiskey and beer does fall under the vegan category!

We dropped by Grand Mellinium opposite Planet Hollywood to check out Pulse Club and bloody hell, entry is RM50 each with one free drink. We figured we’re way too cool to be hanging out with snotty and pretencious people and headed to Mojos at Heritage Row instead. They play excellent R&B music!

Feeling guilty for making us wait for him, he got us a Chivas Bottle

Our hidden Chivas bottle courtesy of Birthday Boy :) If he’s going to buy us a bottle for every time he’s late, then i say, take your timee boyyy!

YES Mena – our baby’s got a new look!

SEE what you missed Babysis?? That could have been YOUR Birthday celebration :)

Decided to cook a new dish for dinner on Saturday. It’s been a while since I last cooked. Yes, awful! Anyway, it turned out WELL and hubby said he liked it. Come to think of it, he always says it’s nice. Maybe it is.

Presenting…..Thai Cashew Chicken

For the recipe:

Thai Cashew Chicken

1 Chicken Breast
Bell Pepper: 3 small (orange, red and yellow: 1 from each)
(You can also opt to just have 1 green bell pepper like I did)
Celery Sticks: 2
Carrot: 1
Vegetable Oil: 1 tbsp
Chili Peppers: 2-4, crushed
Garlic: 2 cloves, finely chopped
Soy Sauce: 1 tbsp
Oyster Sauce: 1 tbsp
Sugar: 1 tsp
Cashews: 1-2 cups

Directions:

1. Cut the chicken breast and peppers in bite sizes

2. Slice the celery sticks and finely slice the carrot.

3. Fry the garlic with the oil in a wok or a big frying pan until golden.

4. Add the chilies and fry for 30 seconds.

5. Add the chicken and stir fry until it changes color.

6. Add the vegetables, soy and oyster sauce and sugar.

7. Stir fry until the vegetables are softened a bit but not much.

8. Add the cashews and stir fry until the cashews are softened a bit but not much.

9. Serve!

Easy peasy!

Next on my must cook list: Northern Indian food, yay. And let me tell you, to even gather half the ingredients on the recipe is a chore by itself, no joke. But we’ll see how that goes. And if you don’t see me blogging about it, then you’ll know I gave up looking for it half way :)
