Yummy In Our Tummy

Yummy In Our Tummy

Wooo we’ve been dining out alot for the past 2 weekends! I had purchased all these vouchers on various group discount sites (but of course) so it was time to finally redeem it because the husband was nagging the shit out of  me like a lil bitch about the vouchers piling up in my car! Yup am so efficient coz I print my vouchers out almost immediately and leave them in my car so we can use it whenever :D

Plus seriously – I am addicted to these sites. First thing I do in the morning every single freaking day without fail  is to quickly check these sites out to see what sort of bargains I can get my hands on. I usually stick to food deals more than anything else…….but of course!

We all know dining out in KL is not exactly cheap. We’re looking at minimum RM50 for two if you go to a normal restaurant. I can never fathom why drinks are so pricey here too. Anyhos, if one can get them cheaper, let’s say at the fraction of the price, why not eh?

So yea, here we are at Blue Cow Cafe in Plaza Damas. I usually look out for deals for area/places that we frequent alot and got this voucher from Mydeal.

Pumpkin soup – now this was really rich and so good! Not much of a pumpkin fan (though I may look like one myself!) but this was seriously tasty.

Chicken pie with fries and coleslaw – gotta admit, the filling on this one was generously packed and so worth every discounted cent I paid. It also came with a drink making it a full course. Mydeal, please bring this deal back again, please…

Moooo blue cowwww.

Discounted Price: RM10.90 EACH instead of RM24. So that’s RM26.2 in total savings :D Woot!

Then for Mother’s day, I had earlier purchased a 4 course chinese dinner voucher from Groupon that was inclusive of fish, pork (for mom of course), bean curd and vegetable for a mere RM50. Imagine feeding 5 mouths for a mere RM50 for chinese food. What a steal. This was in D’Tau Heritage Food Village in B’fields. It was on second time there (the first time dad actually bought a 8 course meal voucher on Groupon – HAH, can you imagine a retired grandpa buying discounted vouchers??!) Now he’s actually subscribed to these newsletters too.

No complains as the food was GOOD esp the fish, super fresh.

Discounted price: RM50 instead of RM99. That’s RM49 in savings! God knows how they even make a profit on this one coz fish is expensive.

Sairah of course had her usual fried rice

Mmmm riceeeee! Champion food for Asian babies.

All set for voucher redemption in Ristretto Mont Kiara yo!

Wearing the outfit Daddy got her coz we were just heading for lunch and grocery shopping.

Somebody’s in a sticker mode

Stick stick stick…

Hah, things her dad allows her to do to him!

This wasn’t included in our deal but what I can say is coffee here is REALLY impressive.

Absolutely the best mocha I”ve had in KL, even Sairah got taken up by it (I”m guessing she saw the ice cream floating on top of it) I would come back here again and again for the coffee.

My chicken chop – loved the sauce that it came with and even a small side of salad was yummeh.

Sairah and hubby’s coriander infused chicken rice. It’s suppose to be a Peruvian dish. I wouldnt know coz I have not been to Peru (although it’s on my list, hmpf!) The rice was absolutely flavorful and was a hit with Sairah. Little Miss Greedy got upset when the waiter wanted to take away her plate after she was done, lol.

Discounted price: RM25.80 instead of RM58. That’s RM33 in savings.

Saying bye to the guards, she’s always super friendly to them.

Just a photo of super TALL buildings in Mont Kiara. Oh and my hair looks so shiny here. I”ve since cut my hair shorter and looking at these photos make me miss my long one-length hair :(

Next up, for Mother’s day, we were all set to redeem another voucher at Palate Palette. I like how some vouchers can be used even on special ocassions or on a public holiday. This was my second time here, you can read about my first visit here in 2008, geez it’s been THAT long.

LOVE this outfit on her, her top is from BBluvsme while the jeggings are from Jusco, only paid RM11 for it!

Vain baby is vain

Mommy-baby shot before we head out for Mother’s Day lunch that I paid for :D

Interesting wall art

The deal came with yet another pumpkin soup. Is pumpkin soup cheap to make or what?!

Daddy’s beer which he paid on his own of course. I had the Iced Toffee Nut Coffee (not pictured) and it was rather strong for me. Swear I felt a lil sick after that.

My chicken bolognese pasta which was pretty so-so. I swear I make em better :D

Hubby’s Asparagus and Smoked Chicken pasta which he claims was bland.

Not sure if this deal was absolutely worth it but what the heck…..we got to dine in Changkat BB cheaply :D

Got this on Groupon. Discounted Price: RM29 instead of RM100, that’s RM71 in savings

Typical Malaysian taking away the free magazine.

After lunch we headed off to Dr Cafe in The Strand. It’s officially my favorite coffee place. The ice blended mocha is absolutely lovely. This of course wasn’t part of any voucher form…..we paid full price :D And even then the stingy husband was complaining how expensive it is. Chettiars!

My pretty tired baby all asleep and safe in momma’s arms. Also made my coffee break a good one :D

Just wanna show off her lovely lashes :D

So yea, only a part of my vouchers redeemed! We still have a few more to go. If you haven’t really jumped onto this group discount band wagon yet, I highly suggest you do. Imagine the savings you make by not paying full price, you could go shopping with that :D Or buy diapers and baby milk :D Plus who needs to cook all the time when you purchase these babies :D

You can check out my favorite site here that consolidates most of the group discount site deals. Enjoy!

I Had An Off Day

26 Apr

I Had An Off Day

To be sung to I had a bad dayyyy….

Yup, there’s such a thing called an off day.

Actually, there is such a thing as an off-day cooking, off-day restaurant visit and heck even off-day casting! And all that can happen in a day.

Allow me….

We went to Ala Thai on Saturday to redeem our voucher. You could say  almost all our meals are voucher based, lol. Usually our experience have been a real good one (coz let’s face it, some restaurants take part in group discount sites to get in customers, hoping you would return to them again) except for this restaurant called Ala Thai in Solaris Dutamas.

First off cock waiter lied and said some sessions were fully booked making us to settle for the 12.30pm slot. We get there at 1pm (coz we’re rebels like that) only to find the restaurant half empty anyway. As soon as we whip out our voucher, you could see the waiter’s face change. True we paid RM9.90 each for a four course meal but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get proper treatment right? Anyway, service was slow, had to raise our hands up for the longest time before we got any service. The restaurant wasn’t even that huge for us to go unnoticed. And then when I asked for an empty plate, it never came!! The pineapple fried rice I had was horrible. Even the soup and dessert that came with it was so bloody off, it was beyond tasteless and watered down. Husband had better luck with his Pad Thai and dessert, to give them some credit.

The heck kinda service is this?? Ponders baby girl…

I should add the prawns in my rice was stale and old!

Anyway, will we be their return customer? Of course not.

After hanging around Publika,  we took the little one for a casting after lunch and my pedicure :D She was to be casted as a ‘fair urban malay’ toddler. I never knew people could be described that way, lol. We got there to find alot of people waiting for their turn. It would be a minimum wait of 1 hour I thought. But lo and behold our name got called within 5 minutes of our arrival! I was happy with the VIP treatment (of course later it dawned to me the lady had mixed up the papers and reached for mine first). It was also close to the little one’s sleeping time so I was afraid she’d get cranky and true enough……….all she did in that casting room was cry cry cry her head off. Would have been perfect if that was for a Cry Baby ad I’m sure.  She didn’t want to pose, kept hiding behind my leg and calling out to me – she was afraid of the casting director. Infact I had to tell him if it was okay for his lady assistant to take her photos and video. We had better luck, but she still was slighty uncooperative. Castings are definitely best attended in the morning me thinks :)  Sairah knocked off for 1.5 hours that evening though :)

Then I thought it would be nice to cook Indian food for a change for dinner that night. You know, to make the Indian husband happy. A nice EASY Garam Masala Curry I thought. Heck, even the recipe said it was EASY! Easy my foot coz the curry just went all wrong. I stood there for the longest time wondering what I should add in more and even resorted to using Tandoori Masala powder and yogurt even when the recipe didn’t call for it just to balance out the taste and spiciness. In the end it was the husband who came to the rescue to make it taste better – something about adding lime to cut down the spiciness he said, whatever.

I am not destined to be a good cook where Indian food esp curries are concerned. Period. The spices involved are a whole lot more trickier than rocket science! Swear he’s in charge of making curries in the future. But if anyone has a good curry recipe then share pleaseee.

I did have better luck where the vegs were concerned so maybe Indian vegetables dishes could be my thing. I got the recipe from here but instead of baking it, I fried it after boiling the potatoes and it was super yummy. Threw in some taufoo too just coz the packet was lying around.

Looks like a smiley face! A good end to the day that was pretty off I reckon. And the cherry on top was seeing my little one sleep throughout the night like a log coz she was exhausted from all that swimming in the evening.

Guess it wasn’t that bad of an off day afterall eh?!

Simply Mel’s Is Simply Fantastico

Simply Mel’s Is Simply Fantastico

You know, it’s been a while since we made any impromptu trips to Malacca. I do miss Malacca for its food, esp Portuguese / Baba Nyonya food! Please go read all my previous foodie experience in Malacca here. I still crave for Amy’s till today!

Being tied down to KL for a simple reason, Simply Mel’s is our favorite go to place when we have such food cravings. They are relatively new in the foodie business but save to say, I don’t know of any place in KL that serves better Portuguese / Baba Nyonya food than them. Actually, do we have other Portuguese restaurants in KL?

This was our third visit to Simply Mel’s!

Their signature sirap bandung. I LOVE sirap bandung. Their version wasn’t too sweet yet very satisfying.

Little one was eyeing the bandung but at the end we gave her plain water coz we’re mean like that :)

The simple but cozy interior. It’s really like eating at your parent’s place. Really! Since the owner Mel herself cooks these lovely dishes.

Mama Mercy’s Fish Croquette

Chicken Pongteh, which is slowly cooked with potatoes in a shallow and black bean paste gravy. If you can’t stand spicy food, this is a must try.

Mel’s Devil Curry – sinfully spicy! The way we like it. But be warned if you can’t take spicy food. This would literally sting you :D But it’s soo good.

Mixed vegetable – something I could whip up at home also but the vegs were cooked perfectly, not too hard, not too soft.

Another spicy aubergine dish that went oh so well with rice.  My mom has this habit of attempting to re-create whatever she eats when we’re out so she did challenge herself to re-create this and we can’t wait.

First time visit for my parents – they loved it! Just by what we ordered you can tell we’re Indians :)

For dessert I went with the sago gula melaka which was divineeeee, it’s a must have on my list if any restaurant has this on their menu.

Mom went for the Bubur Pulut Hitam, which is also my favorite. Obviously the men didn’t do dessert :)

Overall, food here is obviously above average. It’s like eating good Malacca food in the vicinity of KL. The entire bill came up to approx RM100. I like how Mel, the owner does her obligatory meet and greet with the customers once you’re done with dinner. Restaurants who give out a homely vibe and home-cooked meals always gets my vote.

Mom modelling my new mustard bag that came in the mail on Friday, hehe. I’m actually on a mission to collect bags in every color possible :D, IF that’s a possible thing to achieve.

And believe it or not, I only paid RM50 for this inclusive of shipping. It’s so BIG (bigger than what I expected it to be) and definitely of very good quality. No one believes me when I say it’s onleh RM50. I walked into Coach in Gardens the other day with this bag and no one snubbed me, heh :D

And also one of my good buys last weekend is this: sorry for the blur pic, my kid is constantly snatching away my makeup!

These are none other than the Revlon Lip Butter which every damn beauty blog are raving about at the moment. Feel free to google the reviews to see the beautiful swatches! I got it in Macaron and Cherry Tart for RM25 each and just ADORE them to bits. It’s by far one of the better drugstore lippie product out there. It goes on bloody smoothly like err butter, is super pigmented and layers well, staying power is not too bad, moisturizing power is off the hook and I can’t help re-apply this just coz I love how it feels on my lip.

Now I feel like collecting every color available, grr. Yea, I’m obsessed with collecting things in every possible color lately, lol. Must-resist-temptation!! Unless anyone wants to sponsor it for meee?!

What’s your cheap but very happy purchase made recently? Weird how some affordable products can invoke such a HAPPY feeling in you :D

The Mall Rats

The Mall Rats

I took about 300 odd photos during the CNY weekend :D And I’ll probably be doing the same this LONG weekend since we’ve got a few things lined up.

Thought I’d just put the photos up instead of letting them sit on my folder :D

This was on Saturday @ Fahrenheit 88. It was our first time there, went to redeem my pizza voucher at California Pizza Kitchen.

Daddy take the menu and stop scribbling on my paper!

I read on a few blogs about how ‘awesome’ their red velvet cake was suppose to be. Priced at RM22 a pop, I thought I would be experiencing something out of this world. Sad to say the cake had almost NO flavor to it and all we could taste was SUGAR and more sugar!! Honestly what the fark is wrong with some people and their taste buds la? How is this anywhere awesome? I really would suggest to CPK to get in touch with Upstairs Cafe and ask them to supply you their red velvet cakes coz this one was just pathetic!

Looks good, but pathetic. Can’t believe we blew this much for a stupid slice of cake. Yes a week later I”m still very pissed and sore – in a bad way!

That said, food in CPK is pretty good. Just stay away from their desserts!!

Nah – proof we were in Fahrenheit 88 :D

Sairah’s outfit:

Penguin Pink Tee: Gift from my cousin – her favorite Uncle

Leggings with tutu attached: From Jusco – I first saw this and absolutely fell love with it. They have various colors with attached tutus. Too cute!! And priced at RM15.90 – a total steal. Right now I”m looking for a BLACK tank top for her but can’t seem to find one – any ideas??

Taking in the CNY deco:

And lion dance

:D

On Sunday we decided to go to Sunway Pyramid. SP has always been my fav mall back in Uni. But we find it increasingly hard to go there without worrying if we’ll ever find a car park.

I love the expression on both father and daughter.

If she was 20 years older, she’d be gawking and looking at the jewerly. Alas, a kid will be a kid hence her fascination with the balloons. Plus it helps that she’s short :D

Super heart this shot – she looks like she’s ready to shop and spend her dad’s money, lol

Oops wrong store mom – all too big for me.

This was on Tuesday, last day of our long weekend, so we decided to check Sunway Giza Mall.  Yea you can tell we’re quite the mall-hopper rats during festive season :D

Mall was pretty dead, but luckily there was this nice looking kiddie play area which Sairah dominated! Only because she was the only kid around there.

A lady does not flash her diapers in public Sairah, hehe.

Haha overly dressed for the playground you reckon? :D A fashionista’s woe :p

Enjoyed every second watching her play. She was full of curiousity and just loves the slide. Now gotta convince her dad to invest in one so I can leave it at mom’s place for her to play :)

Happiness is in a slide mommie. Kids…..they’re just so naive, LOL.

Coffee break @ Austin Chase with her new baby doll.

I think I’ve most certainly fully utilized this Pumpkin Patch dress on her. If I ever feature her wearing this dress again on this blog, please shoot me or donate some money pleaseee.

Flippin a car magazine, just like what daddy likes to do over a good cup of coffee.

I look forward to this LONG weekend again, less mall trips, infact we’ll be having a little road trip with our girl. Can’t wait! Enjoy the long weekend y’all coz it’s gonna be a while before there’s another public holiday :)

La Vie En Rose

19 Jan

La Vie En Rose

A while ago we were listening to radio and this DJ asked this guy, what has changed in your relationship since dating/getting married.

Immediately I yelled….bugger you hardly take me out to nice dinner thesedays. All we ever do is use the vouchers I buy you bloody cheapskate!

Almost felt sorry for my husband’s ears that day coz out came a bunch of other list. Heh.

So as I was attempting to plan out our Friday he coyly mentioned that he was taking me out to dinner.

See ladies, men always say we nag, but nagging gets things done. True story, tried and tested :D

Instinctively I had a rough idea where were already going coz I mentioned to him once about this new french restaurant that opened near my office.

Check out me Victorian style ring, me likey!

The interior of La Vie En Rose, which is located in Jalan Raja Chulan

Instintively I also had a bad feeling of them not having a baby chair. And true enough, they didn’t! I was quite annoyed. But I dont’ blame them, whoever takes a baby for fine-dining anyways? This will be probably Sairah’s first and last until she’s a bit older coz let me tell you it’s not easy! Gonna stick to normal restaurants coz she behaves so well there. Well maybe she does coz they actually HAVE a baby chair :)

A good baby for now….good thing we brought her stroller though she only used it for a good 10 minutes.

The menu….pretty pricey. And food selection is pretty limited. I want BIG soft fluffy french style crossaint on the menu. As main course!!

You can almost tell he’s regretting bringing his wife here after seeing the menu. If we choose to leave now the bitch wife will nag, haha. Yea I can read his thoughts!

But too late! We’re here! With one naughty kid in tow. Ah yes, she was her naughtiest that day.  Refused to sit, refused to eat, refused to let us eat…….all she wanted to do was walk walk walk and fml, I forgot her shoes! And if we didn’t let her walk she’d SCREAM! I felt sorry for the other diners who were trying to get some romantic time, haha. Almost wanted to tell them also to enjoy every minute of it coz once a kid comes…….they can kiss that good bye, hehe.

Happy shot before the naughtiness begins….you can already see it on her face how she’s planning out some epic misbehaving…

We were given a serving of warm bread which was pretty good and with what you call a shot of julienned carrots with a dollop of cream. Ooo julienned I feel so posh, lol.

Had a simple salad while we waited for the main course. The salad was pretty divine. The cheese portion was very generous.

And that’s when it started……..the naughtiness! Her father had to walk her around the restaurant in her socks while I sat there eating my salad ALONE. We were lucky they were only 3-4 occupied tables.

Mommy tried to distract her by letting her rummage through her bag.

Mom, you lied, there’s no chocolate in there! Did YOU eat it all?

After a while she got bored with the bag so mommy had to distract her with a bangle or whatever random object she could find.  At this point of time I was praying that our main course would arrive pronto.

Oh but it did not. So I did the next best thing I could do – turn the camera screen in front of us and cam-whored! Which lasted about a good 10 minutes.

Nobody messes with my mommie. Word.

Okay I lied, haha, I’m no gangsta. Just naughty.

Pouty pouty pouty…

:p Yes I’m a bad influence to her :D

I was almost certain I ordered the chicken with cream sauce but got the coq au vin instead. But no worries, chicken with red wine – I can eat this. The chicken itself was soft and moist but the sauce was a bit too over-whelming. Hats off to the wonderful mashed potato with truffles though!! It was totally out of this world. Even the naughty kid approved. I would go back for this!

Hubby’s lamb shank which he claims had alot of fats. But still okie.

We didn’t even stop to have dessert. Coz I wanted a shake from Milkshake Factory, yums

A little more naughtiness before we leave.

Misbehaving in a fine dining restaurant……….yup, that’s my girl right there! Again to all diners who were dining there on Friday – we’re SOOOO SOOO sorry :D

I”m so fabulously naughtyyyyy.

Hmpff, guess that means hubby has a fine reason not taking me out somewhere nice. But no worries, I’ll make sure any new restaurant will do  for now.

Total bill was RM184 inclusive of a beer and apple juice.

Baby terrorizing people on a fine night out: PRICELESS.

Would we return again? Probably not. One time experience here is enough :D

You can check out this blog for more substantial reviews on this restaurant.
