Ali Baba And His Kebabs

7 May

It’s been a while since we went out to dinner on a weekday. So we decided to head to Ali Baba’s Kebab Iranian Restaurant in Jalan Ampang last night.

Deco of the place could be much better, but it’s a nice place to just hang out and maybe have a shisha. Menu consists of your typical Iranian food although I don’t know why their banner says Western food too.

Iranian tea – my fav and much better than the ones found in Naab and Persia Restaurant.

Onions, parsley (a common herb used in middle eastern cuisine)and the excellent mint sauce to go with it:

My husband had the Kabab Koobideh pronounced kuuubideee, which is made of lamb.

I had the Joojeh Kabab (Grilled Chicken kebab) or known as Chelow Kabab which is a national dish of Iran. The meal consist of saffroned basmati/persian rice and chicken kabab. It is usually served with grilled tomatoes on the side of the rice, and butter on top of the rice. Sinfully delicious. And if you’re lucky it will come with their delicious curry!

Dessert: Bakhlava. Probably the world’s smallest dessert?

Ok food here isn’t the best but it’s definitely not bad either. We still prefer Persia Restaurant but I love the Iranian tea here better! Price came up to about RM54for two. Cheap?

I am definitely one happy customer and it shows :)

*It’s okay to play with your food AFTER you’re done with it*

He looks satisfied too….. I think

Lightning Fast

14 Apr

Sigh, another weekend came and went so fast!

Friday Night @ Planet Hollywood to celebrate Bestie’s b’day

Some nachos to fill our hungry tummies before the arrival of birthday boy who came 1 hour late – he’s ALWAYS late.

My Chicken Little Sandwich & Fries

Happy Hour – MY two long island tea and two whiskey coke :)

Hubby’s Tuna Pizza which was a disappointment – fyi – avoid!

Dheeraj’s vegetarian pizza. It’s always fun to see how he swears whiskey and beer does fall under the vegan category!

We dropped by Grand Mellinium opposite Planet Hollywood to check out Pulse Club and bloody hell, entry is RM50 each with one free drink. We figured we’re way too cool to be hanging out with snotty and pretencious people and headed to Mojos at Heritage Row instead. They play excellent R&B music!

Feeling guilty for making us wait for him, he got us a Chivas Bottle

Our hidden Chivas bottle courtesy of Birthday Boy :) If he’s going to buy us a bottle for every time he’s late, then i say, take your timee boyyy!

YES Mena – our baby’s got a new look!

SEE what you missed Babysis?? That could have been YOUR Birthday celebration :)

Decided to cook a new dish for dinner on Saturday. It’s been a while since I last cooked. Yes, awful! Anyway, it turned out WELL and hubby said he liked it. Come to think of it, he always says it’s nice. Maybe it is.

Presenting…..Thai Cashew Chicken

For the recipe:

Thai Cashew Chicken

1 Chicken Breast
Bell Pepper: 3 small (orange, red and yellow: 1 from each)
(You can also opt to just have 1 green bell pepper like I did)
Celery Sticks: 2
Carrot: 1
Vegetable Oil: 1 tbsp
Chili Peppers: 2-4, crushed
Garlic: 2 cloves, finely chopped
Soy Sauce: 1 tbsp
Oyster Sauce: 1 tbsp
Sugar: 1 tsp
Cashews: 1-2 cups

Directions:

1. Cut the chicken breast and peppers in bite sizes

2. Slice the celery sticks and finely slice the carrot.

3. Fry the garlic with the oil in a wok or a big frying pan until golden.

4. Add the chilies and fry for 30 seconds.

5. Add the chicken and stir fry until it changes color.

6. Add the vegetables, soy and oyster sauce and sugar.

7. Stir fry until the vegetables are softened a bit but not much.

8. Add the cashews and stir fry until the cashews are softened a bit but not much.

9. Serve!

Easy peasy!

Next on my must cook list: Northern Indian food, yay. And let me tell you, to even gather half the ingredients on the recipe is a chore by itself, no joke. But we’ll see how that goes. And if you don’t see me blogging about it, then you’ll know I gave up looking for it half way :)

Birthday Weekend

28 Jan

Let me assure you that it has been an awesome weekend!

Friday Night:

We arrived at To Dine For Fine Thai Cuisine for a perfect Thai dinner. It’s part of Bangkok Jazz Bistro located upstairs. Fairly classy looking and can only accomodate roughly less than 40 people. Perfect! 2 appetizers, 2 main course together with one 2 alcoholic beverages came up to around RM110.

We then proceeded for some jazz music @ Bangkok Jazz with performances by Billy & Tuxedo. Apparently he was the Best Singer in Levi’s search 2000 for his impressive rendition of One Last Cry by Brian McKnight (which is absolutely a romantic song) btw.

The Stage:

Long Island Tea Jug @ RM75

Billy in Action

VERY ROMANTIC

The Birthday night ended up his gift which he completely adores:

There’s an adorable video fo him unwrapping his gift like a 7 year old. Too bad it’s a huge file.

Sat night:

Suprise party was a success! He was in total shock and had NO clue whatsoever about the party. Now that’s what you call a suprise. And so it’s true that women are better at organizing a suprise party.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible. You guys are great actors :) The night was definitely an enjoyable one. Muaks!

Kim Gary Oh Kim Gary

11 Jan

I just feel I should blog about this place since I’m their number 1 customer :) It’s the best place to head to for some real good Hong Kong cuisine. HK eateries have only recently sprouted in KL btw. The two outlets that I frequent usually are in Megamall (beware the queue just to get in) and in Hartamas shopping Centre.

I only have these 3 dishes every time I’m there which is more or less once-twice a week. It’s like a must for us to go there every week.

Food:
-Cheese & Ham Sandwich (yummiest sandwich I’ve had)

-Fried rice with pineapple and shredded chicken (must try with its sambal)
-Baked cheese with spaghetti, curry milk (Highly highly recommended)

Drink:

-Tea in Hong Kong Style (have it hot or cold, it’s still good)
-Ying Yong (combination of coffee and tea)
-Milo Ice Blended

Tea (Cold) on the left and Ying Yong hot on the right.

AND for dessert, their must try: FRENCH TOAST! It’s a crime to go there and not order this. The combination of deep fried bread generously slapped with peanut butter and then topped up with maple syrup and butter is simply to die for.

Warning: You might want them to go slow on the maple syrup for those who don’t have a sweet tooth.

Order any one of these and I guarantee you’ll go back for more.

Price is very reasonable, which can range from RM22 to RM30 for two, depending on what you order. I’ve been to a few other HK eatery outlets, mainly Prince in SS2 and Kowloon cuisine at Hartamas and none, I mean none can compare to the quality and taste of what Kim Gary can offer. And if you love pork, even better as 70% of their menu comprises of porky-dishes.

Next time I’m there, I shall take some pictures to attest the yummy factor of their food. Don’t believe how popular they are? DO a google search and you’ll find an extensive bloggie reviews on Hong Kong Kim Gary.

Best Crabs are in Lorong Haji Taib

10 Jan

I couldn’t log on to my Maybank2u Portal on tuesday. Apparently it got blocked coz even though i signed in correctly, it kept saying the log in/password were wrong. SO it got blocked! Frustrating. And the most hassling part is having to go the nearest ATM so i can create a new pin to do a first-time log in order to access my account. Argh, banking can be a pain. Thank god my dad was kind enough to help me create the pin. Reckon if he knows how much i have in my bank account now, lol. Which is not much btw.

On wednesday night, we decided to meet up with my hubby’s aunt and uncle (who are great company btw)together with my parents for some nice chinese dinner at the most notorious place a straight man could ever be. Lorong Haji Taib (LHT)!! According to his aunt, the best crab dish is located here, and she’s right. It was yummy! Even their chilli sotong was really really good! Bad location but great food.

On the way to the car, a big fat She-Male in a purple dress kept eyeing my husband, lol. It majorly crept him out. Didn’t help that i actually pushed him towards he/she/it. Bet it made the she-male’s day, lol.

We then proceeded to Royal Selangor Club for some dessert and drinks. We actually clubbed with my parents!! It wasn’t as weird as i thought it would be. They are good company afterall and i’m not just saying that coz my dad bought us drinks, lol. The singers and DJ got excited upon seeing 2 youngsters walking in. Infact, they made an announcement and welcomed us, lol. Must have been a delight for the young DJ to play some good modern music for a good 15mins.

6 strong whiskey cokes later we decided home. An enjoyable night indeed.

Can’t wait for the weekend!
