Paris
1 Aug
I actually landed in Amsterdam two Fridays ago ALONE in the morning after enduring a 12 hour flight. I was lucky to have the whole 3 seats to myself! Slept like a log until we almost reached there.
With leggings, oily hair and a makeup-less oily face, no wonder no one wanted to sit next to me *sniffs*
Anyway, immigration in Amsterdam is kinda scary. They ask you alot of questions about your stay, your purpose, wanting details etc and as if being brown is a crime, I got randomly pulled over by customs who wanted to inspect my luggages. Sure let the white dudes walk by freely and suspect the brown one shall we?!
“Do you have food in there?” asks the custom dude, oh generalize shall we that I”m asian so it’s expected of me to have FOOD in my luggage???! I turn around and what do I see, another chinese brother getting his bags checked too. Contrary to popular belief, not all asians will pack noodles and food in their bags when travelling! We can afford to spend 3 Euros on your cold sandwiches. But fine maybe the dude was just doing his job.
Schipol airport is seriously very over-whelming. But cool at the same time coz you have SOO many platform stations where the trains go to various parts of Netherlands that it took me a while to figure out which line to take. So with my two big luggages NOT filled with FOOD (though the next time I”m going to bring some Belacan just for farks, try figuring that one out bitches), I took a 30 min train ride to Den Haag, also know as The Hague. Followed by another 5 minute taxi ride that cost me 15 Euros.
Oh but I need to say that their taxis are pretty awesome
This is how they roll in Hague.
The husband greeted me at the lobby before going off to work as he was there for a 2 week workshop and so I slept yet again and then got ready for our Paris trip via Thalys train that took about 2.5 hours (kira like going to Ipoh la, ONLY BETTER, MUCH BETTER)
One hot chocolate to keep me warm pleaseee….summer this time around was actually VERY cold! We were not expecting Paris to be cold as well so I only had this one sweater to keep me warm all three days. You can imagine how smelly that cardigan was.
Trying to look for our hotel………
We stayed at Mercure in the La Defense district, about 20 mins away from the Eiffel Tower and 3 stations away from Champ Elysees. And unless one can splurge thousands on a room, most hotels in Paris I believe are expensive yet crappy looking and SMALL.
Like so:
The hotel alone can suck the romance away so good thing we were not honeymooners.
As usual, did alot of eating:
Some restaurant along Champ Elysees
Breakfast at the hotel -how can you not love having PASTRIES for breakfast?
Definitely breakfast for champions. Their crossaints are to die for. Soft and fluffy. Just like the husband.
I insisted we sit out in the cold to saviour every moment of it
Absolute gorgeous dark chocolate mousse to die for.
And when in Paris, must definitely eat Macarons from Pierre Hermes!
If you want me to leave this store you’re going to have to drag me by the hair!
Awesome Macarons. But I’ve realized they dont make great souvenirs as they were crushed by the time I got em back
Sorry mom!
Did some simple shopping around the main area of Paris too, not too much because we didn’t have time. And $.
Man carrying a woman’s handbag spotted
This is Galerie Lafayatte – spent about 2 hours that evening just browsing through all those designer goods *sniff*
SEPHORA! Which I came out empty-handed too.
Got to meet up with the gorgeous and radiant Farah. It was great meeting you babe, call if you’re coming to Malaysia
H&M – sale in H&M is just massively crazy! But too bad most of the nice stuff were already snapped out so I did most of my shopping in Hague.
One day we shall have a nice quaint lil apartment in Paris as a holiday home *looks at God – strike number puhleze?*
This is the Louvre museum…..that houses ze famed Mona Lisa potrait
We couldn’t get to go in coz it apparently takes 3 freaking days to cover this place so I’ll give you my best Mona Lisa pose
Plus the queue was insane, just see photo below on the left:
FAIL
Now where shall we hop on and hop off next?
Ah the Notre Dame Cathedral , an absolute breath-taking building that has so much charm to it. Almost like John Abraham – in building form.
It’s amazing just looking at all the attention and immense details given.
There was a long queue (yet again, like most places in Paris) but we were in there in no time.
I even offered a candle in Sairah’s name and prayed that she’ll soar for greater heights in the near future while trying hard not to tear. Come to think of it, this Cathedral is soo over-whelming that being in there just invokes teary eyes, don’t know why.
Baby girl’s candle is on the top to the right
Soar Sairah Soar!
Now this photo was taken on Saturday
And this is Paris on Sunday! See the difference yet?
The husband lost our Hop on Hop off tickets which were valid for 2 days so we decided to take the MRT around. The smile on his face says it all because he was EAGER to visit Les Invalides , which contains museums and monuments relating to the history of France.
Showing mah back to history – geddit? No?
Men in armour – huba hubaaaa
The husband being the history geek that he is decided to get the audio guide while I walked around taking photos of everything. He did relate what he learnt from the audio guide later, without even asking if I wanted to know *yawn*
Can you believe men and horses wore this back then?
I may not be a fan of history BUT I always pay attention to packages and details, ahem
Why hello there, what are you hiding in there
Spot the similarity? Hehe
Right outside Napolean’s tomb
Inside his tomb – well not literally, you know what I mean.
After that we walked around in the streets of Paris while taking in the cool air, it was extremely cold that day, just the way I like our weather to be.
3 days was all we had in Paris but it was such a good weekend despite the short trip. Never in a million years would I have believed I’d make it here one day but it did happen *looks at God – thank you thank you thank you!*
