Boneless Chicken Meat, Please!

16 Jul

I made fettuccine pasta with cream sauce topped with grilled chicken recently :D

But I’m going to blog about my Thai Basil Chicken :D

Came across the recipe here  and when the sweet day came where I felt like cooking, I found out the minced chicken I bought had expired!!!!

So we settled for maggi mee for dinner that night :(

The next day, the hubby helped buy the chicken from Carrefour.  He brought it home only to find out that the meat had a pungent smell to it that almost made him throw up!

Cereal was my dinner that night. (It is times like these that I miss staying with my mommie!)

Quite adamant to try on this recipe, we dropped by the same damn hypermarket on Saturday only to find out that they were not selling those nicely cut and packed boneless chicken bits and had no choice but to settle with keel. Why we keep going back there to buy our chicken - well good question coz I have no idea myself!

Chicken keel according to the hubby is the part above the chicken’s butt! That made me want to throw up until I googled and found out that it’s actually the breast bone,  that smart alec.  But still, we’re going to BAN buying any sort of  meat from this hypermarket going forward because I am seriously allergic to bones or hypermarkets that do not give us the luxury to buy nicely packed boneless chicken meat. Where are my damn options?!

This is the end product after the husband tried his very best to separate the meat from the bones, eww.

It only took me a good 10 minutes to cook it and  I wasn’t 100% satisfied with it because I wanted to use minced chicken or chicken fillet to begin with! Am I the only one this fussy when it comes to such things? Besides, the recipe was okie, it might need a bit more tweaking for a bit more ooomph, which I will figure out soon.

Meanwhile,  shall experiment on more recipes come this weekend.

I always go Ayamas to buy my chicken. Their poultry meat is very fresh.. but don’t go on Monday, coz they don’t slaughter chicken on Sunday.

There’s once my SIL bought chicken from ‘G hypermarket’.. wah it stink, coz already 2-3 days past and they still sell it and my SIL didn’t check the dates.

I *think* there’s an Ayamas in Lucky Garden. Will remember to head there and check it out. Meanwhile, I’ve found Cold Storage in BSC to be a good place to buy chicken and fish next time. It’s nicely cut and cleaned, hehe.

I can imagine. The stink from the chicken made the whole apartment smell!

If you were living in Damansara where I lived, I’d have some good places where they sell fresh chicken to suggest to you. You may want to try the pasar malam (do they still have that around the Panorama area? Used to jam the roads up like hell then). I’m quite sneaky when I buy meat here. They always put the meat that has the closest expiry date right on top, and the freshest (butchered today :P) ones right at the back or at the bottom. I feel very smug when I get the freshest ones. Hahaha :P That said, when you said that the meat had expired, was the meat in your fridge or in the freezer? The dates on the packaging usually refer to how long the meat can last if it’s in the fridge, not freezer. So if you had put it in the freezer, it can last yonks after the written date. I used to like only breast meat, but now when I make soups, I realize that organic chicken drumsticks taste the best. For stir fries like the one you made, breastmeat + a deboned thigh makes a good combo.

Actually I believe there’s a night market near Panorama area but I’ve not stepped into a night market in ages. My mom however goes to the market in the morning. Maybe it’s time I ask her to help me buy chicken and store it for a week or so :)

LOL yea I always try my best to look for freshest ones in the supermarket. I actually keep my meats in the freezer but I’m too scared to cook it after seeing the expiry dates. Besides, since being pregnant I dont want to risk it by eating stale meat.

You’re right, the hubby keeps saying how bones make soup and some curries taste better but too bad for him la, I”m all for breast meat! :)

I stopped buying any chicken products from any supermarket or hypermarket. A few times I bought, it looked “fresh” and nicely cut, but once I cooked and tasted it, it leaves a horrible taste. :(

Still I’m blured, how come that there are lots of ppl buy from hypermarket?

So, now I only buy chickens from fresh markets. :)

I buy from hypermarkets coz I dont have the time to go to the market in the morning :( Although I agree with you that chicken from markets are the freshest.

I will either go Cold Storage, or Jusco. I don’t trust Carrefour. The place stink even when you are yet to step foot at their Meat area. I dislike going near even at the bakery station. What else to buy their stuff…

I’ve decided to buy my chicken from Cold Storage in BSC or the supermarket in Bangsar Village coz it’s more fresh. Can’t trust meat from Carrefour. And you’re right about the smell. I’ll only go there just to get my usual items – no meats and vegs. Even the vegs in the bangsar south outlet is soooo bad!
