MMT #1 – The Cab Driver
22 Feb
Every once in a while we come across situations that make us stop for a moment to think. I’ve decided to add on a little category called MMT (makes me think), which is no doubt inspired by this site here. I hope to update this every once a week based on things that I see with my OWN eyes that makes me stop for a moment to think. And if you have any random moments that touched you or made you think that particular week, do share too!
So on to my FIRST MMT
I was driving home yesterday during peak hour and saw a car parked at the corner with the hood up. Standing at the side was the owner, a woman in her early 30s. And next to her, a man dressed in a relatively stained white shirt, about in his 40s, was seen fixing her car. He had parked his taxi next to her car and was helping the damsel in distress. Now I usually don’t think much of cabbies because let’s face it, they whirl in and out as they wish and have the tendency of stopping their cabs in front of you without ANY indication. Let’s not forget how some of them do try to fleece you by charging you a flat rate!
But yesterday, the random act of kindness by the cabbie even though he could be out making money during peak hour MMT.

It’s rare now adays to see random act of kindness regardless of situations. But that was indeed a good MMT moment, salutations to the taxi driver.
Nowdays it just gets more and more difficult to be a good samaritan. Sometimes doing good just ends up blowing at your face.
E.g. getting a scournful look even you hold the door for a person just makes you wonder if it’s all worthed it.
Seeing somone in distress on the road requires an MMT moment. You never know if it’s all for show and that an accomplice could just be around the corner waiting to pounce all over your safety.
Still, acts of kindness still go a long way and is always encouraged. It’s just difficult not to have any sort of expectations.
Well said Nat! Its a very common thing here not to help someone coz like you said, it can probably end up blowing in your face. But to me, it touched me coz while he could be out taking a passenger and charging them quite a bit (thanks to our traffic), there he was spending his time helping the lady out.
I suppose you’re right, for the lady to accept his help too is definitely a MMT moment coz he could turn around and charge her a huge sum for the ‘help’ or worse, could be a robber in disguise. But perhaps it was only 6pm and with alot of traffic, she gracefully accepted his help
We need more kind people like that cabbie!
definitely a rare encounter, I would be highly cautious and rather call my hubs or ppl I know to help. A brave woman she was
Haha I would do too. But it was broad daylight with lots of traffic and to the cabbie’s defense he didn’t look like he would harm anyone, hehe.
Thanks for your intro to MMT thro your site, dear. I joined, such a cool site.
You’re most welcome Jessie. Its an inspiring site, which makes us think of HIS existence, some things do happen for a reason
