Dreamz @ Genting Highlands

22 Sep

I’m absolutely so exhausted and sick :( Yet another weekend away from KL.

Went to Genting Highland for a night on Saturday but before that, a berbuka puasa session with Shera and Madhu on Friday at Persia Restaurant @ Ampwalk for good food at our favourite restaurant.

Food food o glorious food

Minced Chicken Kebab

Minced Lamb Chicken Kebab

The Art of Shisha-ing

Hubby proudly showing Shera how it’s done – watch and learn buddy

First you get acquainted to it, you touch it, feel it and play with it.

Then you put it in your mouth, suck it and savour the taste & smell

And then you exhale, you must must exhale

But there comes a point when…
When we exhale, yeah yeah

Say, shoop, shoop, shoop…
All you gotta do is say shoop, shoop, shoop…
My Lord now, shoop, shoop…

Rule of Shisha-ing

If you’re a guy, just absolutely don’t ever get caught looking like you’re enjoying sucking it. More so if people think you’re straight :)

Rightttt Suresh?

Genting Highlands

Our hotel: Theme Park Hotel

Hubby and I usually stay in the pigeon hole they call First World Plaza Hotel. But this time around we managed to get the rooms super cheap at Theme Park Hotel. With free breakfast okay? Yay Yay for luck.

I think they underwent some renovations recently so I present you the NEW and IMPROVED Theme Park Hotel

Fairly large room with a big clean bathroom. I likey.

Nappy Time

The View

*waves* Hello folks at the pigeon hole Hotel

A quick cam-whore moment

Ok I’m done cam-whoring. Can we go get the Dreamz ticket now puhleezeee? Yup, the classic puppy dog look that gets him what he wants :)

Yay yay. Tickets to watch Dreamz. Told you.

Okay I admit, I’ve been eyeing Dreamz ever since they started playing in GH early this year.

We came, we saw and we didn’t like it! Disappointing and totally over-rated. Even the white lion couldn’t save the show. On the flip side, at least we got the front row tickets for only RM82 as opposed to paying RM150 like the rest of them. Hah.

Sorry no pictures coz photography are strictly prohibited during the show. Maybe coz they don’t want to show the rest of the world how bad it is!

Wannabe bad magician for a minute. Now if only he could go poof on the days I’m annoyed with him :)

The boys wanted some bumping action (not that kind!) so off we went for a bumper car session with the rest of the kids in the Indoor Theme Park

The boys all anxious for their turn

Rules to Bump

1)Look for the seat belt. In their case, the buffaloes were sitting on it

2) Buckle up and pray that it fits you

3) Ready, get set, Bump Bump Bump it up

We were the only adults playing with the kids so naturally the little ones found some thrill in bumping off the adults. Either way, I got into my favourite pink bumper car so all’s good. We survived.

Wish we had more time to check out the rides (again!), but that’s okay, been there done that like a few times this year already. GH is after all only 50 minutes away from where we live. Can’t help but reminisce how as a kid, GH seemed so far away and a luxury to go to.

And another reason we came to GH, to win some money. Show me the moneeeey!

The boys strategizing while enjoying their coffee

You guys strategize while I enjoy my Xi Mut Milk Tea. Heavenly.

How to win BIG money – By Suresh.

Alas, it was a strategy that failed miserably.

Spent some time gambling and most of the time, watched others gamble.

The amount of people gambling away is overwhelming. Can’t help but wonder if the money they are betting on are their entire lives saving or perhaps a friendly loan from Ah Longs? Scares me that they bid and lose BIG money in just one game while I cringe every time I lose RM5!

Besides, the house always wins! Even if they do win big, they’re bound to lose it within an hour – human greed and the non ability to walk away with your current wins. Ah well.

We played small, lost quit a bit at first then managed to gain some so the end results:

Total Profit

Me: RM25
MIL:RM35
BIL:Negative RM50

And the Winner:

Hubby: Negative RM200

He got all sulky that he lost his $, lol. Had to convince him to chill out, that there are other worse things in life – like losing RM300 instead? :)

And one thing that annoyed me silly, why on earth do some people think it’s okay to dress up like it’s bloody winter??? They look so STUPID in their boots, cap, thick winter jackets and not to forget the scarves and other ridiculous winter gear. It’s barely cold in GH except when we were walking back to the hotel from the casino at 4a.m

It’s SO not cool folks!

Hubby says that these bozos look like they’ve perhaps never even been out the country in their entire life and I think he’s spot on.

Ah what a weekend, bozos aside. Now it’s back to work. But then again, I’m going to be on MC tomorrow coz I’m sick, honest!

Baan 26, Changkat Bukit Bintang

17 Sep

Call me boring, but I’m one of those few who detest going out for lunch during working hours simply because I hate to bake under the 1pm sun and loathe the overly crowded restaurants.

But I do count myself blessed (foodie wise, the jams are horrid) to be working in the Golden Triangle vicinity where there are plenty of stalls and restaurants catering to the lunch mass- should I choose to brave the heat and crowd for food!

I have the once in a blue moon lunches with colleagues and clients but my faithful favourite lunch buddy would definitely be my hubby. Hey look it rhymes! Although he works 20 minutes away, he makes it a point to occasionally do lunch with me when he’s not too occupied at work. (which by right should be almost everyday, heh)

Baan 26 in Changkat BB was our choice of restaurant for Thai food. Although their ala carte dishes are quite steep, their set lunch (or is it lunch set?) are priced extremely affordable at only RM10.60++ and RM13.60++ depending which one you go for.

I decided on their RM10.60++ set meal No 5 which comprised of Spicy Glass Noodle Salad and Thai Style Flat Noodle with Chicken Fillet .

Spicy glass noodle salad was delicious although I found my noodles a tad too sweet for my liking

Hubby went for their RM13.60++ set A meal which comes with Spicy Glass Noodle Salad, Mushroom Rice and Green Chicken Curry

And as always, he had no complains about his meal. He loves it for its authenticity.

The set also comes with a free fruit punch drink

Settings are left minimal and bare, perhaps to mimic the usual neighbourhood restaurants found in the streets of Bangkok. Infact Baan 26 is probably one of the least pretentious restaurants found on Changkat BB, therefore definitely worth a try, lunch time preferably.

Andrew Netto @ No Black Tie

16 Sep

We went to see a comedy show (front seat yo) by Andrew Netto at No Black Tie on a Monday night. So you really can imagine the 50-50 wanna-go-dowan-to-go lazy attitude but we turned up for the sake of Dheeraj since we haven’t seen him in a long time. ;) You have to stop leaving the country every bloody week la buddy.

Coincidently I’ve known Andrew some years ago on Friendster. The best part is, he still remembers me after so long. Aah, the impact I have. Kidding. Really.

But no, that’s not the reason why you should go for his show.

Discovered by Harith Iskandar, you should go for it if you like to laugh till you tear, if you’re able to chuckle at what’s it like being Indian/Chinese/Malay without being offended, if you’re looking for a breath of fresh air and if you’re fed up with our seasoned comedians who are not so funny anymore (get new materials you clowns).

And the mother of all reasons to go – coz I SAID SO and since it comes highly recommended by yours truly.

RM25 for 1 ½ hour’s worth of laughter, I say the show is literally a steal.

Day Trip to Penang

14 Sep

8 hours in Penang to be exact.

Went to visit the in-laws on Friday night in Ipoh. The boys thought it would be a great idea to drive up to Penang on Saturday. Although I’ve been to Penang a few times already, the idea of visiting Penang for a day seemed exciting and spontaneous.

How to enjoy Penang in 8 hours

Ipoh-Penang

11.30am – 1pm

Inching closer to Penang Island

1pm – 2pm

Drive around the Island while enjoying what Penang has to offer. Make some calls to Penangite friends asking them where’s a good place to eat. And at the same time realize what the heck hubby did in Penang for 3 years since he barely knew his way around this time, haha.

And yes I’m totally aware how dressed down the boys are. Beach bums.

2pm-3pm

Finally decided on Indian food in where else but Little India

GOOD northern Indian food at Kaliaman Restaurant.

The food was absolutely delicious and very affordable @ RM51. A yummy meal like this would cost anywhere between RM70-80 in KL.

Made a quick stop at NR Century Sweets for some Indian sweets. I’m going to call him up to see if they can deliver to KL since it was SO damn good!

3pm-5pm

After being stuck in bad traffic on a Saturday afternoon (which can get horrid on weekdays I hear), we arrived to visit the Kek Lok Si Temple

The view from inside the temple

Peekabo I see you

The monks at prayers

Taking the inclined lift to view the Kuan Yin Statue sounded so tempting, hey, it’s the first in Malaysia afterall. Off we went after paying RM4 each for the ticket

Up up and away….

We finally made it to the top.

Penang in a flash

Isn’t she a beauty? Unfortunately we couldn’t get a better view as they are currently undergoing some renovation work.

Pick an animal that best describes you boys :))

5pm-6pm

Made our way to the Botanical Garden for some fresh air and a quick walk around the park.

What was supposed to be MY Botanical Garden documentary turned out to be a shout out by Suresh (and his new hair do, heh)to all the sexy single ladies out there ;) Now be nice and say HI back girls.

Cheeky!

6pm-7.30pm

What is Penang without making a stop by the beach right? Right.

The boys finally look like they belong…

And we made it just in time for the gorgeous sun set

8pm-9pm

As we bit adieu to the sun, our tummies grumbled for food so we went in search of good grub at the Esplanade in Gurney Drive

Nothing beats having good cheap hawker food on a wet Saturday night

Fresh juices for only RM2! Joy!

9pm – 10.30pm

With a full and happy tummy, we decided to make our way home to Ipoh. And there you have it – Penang in 8 hours. Who knew one could see and eat so much in such a short time.
