Goodbye Babies, Mummy Did Love You

17 Dec

But clearly not as much as the rest….

Rummaging through my overfed wardrobe, it’s quite clear that I’ve shopped-out this year. I blame the online boutiques for the addiction.

I’ve got tons of new clothes YET I always reach for the same old tattered ones every single time *shrugs*, my comfort zone perhaps? Maybe, maybe…

BUT BUT BUT….call it being in a X’masy spirit, a year end factor, or just fed up with the sight of clothes strewn everywhere coupled with mom’s nagging and reminder, I’ve finally brought myself to give my precious babies away all FREE online to the girls on my favourite forum.

It was a hit – all cleared, a good 30 pieces.

*so long hunnies, mommy’s going to miss you*

It honestly feels so liberating for some reason, although I’m quite sure that’s not the ONLY good deed I’ve done this year. Maybe I’m excited that my newer clothes and the ones I wear often will now have more space to hog. That or, finally the other clothes that I didn’t give much attention and affection have now found a right deserving home and proud owners.

Whatever it is, I’m happy. Overjoyed. Just like Santa Clause feels after his rounds of gifts for the kids that were well behaved during the entire year.

Clearly 2009’s Resolution No 3 – enough of shopping, save more!

Errr unless I’m abroad that is :p

That said, mustttt resissttt temptation to buy another Coach bag as a year end treat, help!

Travel Plan 2009

15 Dec

December – my favorite month of the year coz I can smell the brand new sparkling year already!

*sniff sniff* 2009, please come faster, can?

It also gives me a good reason to start on our 2009 travel plan.

Quick recap of 2008’s travel:

Stranger’s Land:

India – Chennai & Kerala

Thailand – Hatyai

Indonesia – Bali

Australia – Melbourne

Philippines – Manila

Local soils:

Genting Highlands

Penang

Malacca

Kuantan

Ipoh :)

Port Dickson

Not too shabby if I may say so myself. Looking back of my blog post on travel plans 2008, I can’t believe we managed to fulfill the entire list, yay!

Moving on to great holidays for 2009

*drum roll please*

1)Boracay Island, Philippines – March

This my friend, is paradise on earth – Philippine’s well best kept secret. I remember stumbling on this beauty on someone’s blog months ago and have been captivated by it ever since. And now that hubby will be traveling to Manila for work again next year, what better way to take it as an opportunity and explore this Island. Mena, Dheeraj and Jonas – hopefully you guys will be able to join us – group trip!!

2) Bunaken Island in Manado, Indonesia – July

Ah air flight tickets booked. July please come quick.

3) Vietnam – whenever the other half decides

This one’s here coz the husband wants to go so give and take la :) With his lousy aptitude for ‘planning’ we’ll see if this REALLY happens :)

4) Beijing, China – tentatively during Autumn / Winter

Planning on kick starting off our 7 Wonder’s of the World adventure by visiting Beijing during the winter. Hubby’s colleague in Beijing has been kind enough to offer himself as our very own tour guide. So meant to be!

Really am hoping for a good bonus mid next year for this trip. *crosses fingers & toes & every thing else that’s crossable* Help cross too please?

As for exploring local soils:

1) Kota Kinabalu/Labuan/Brunei – July

Tickets booked.

How can we not splurge $ / explore our own country right? The clubbing and sightseeing is good in KK, so I hear :) As for Labuan – cheap booze and chocolates which I got to enjoy 2 years back so this will be the first for hubby. Maybe I’ll drop by to visit my colleagues in Labuan too .

2) Colmar Tropicale, Bukit Tinggi – February

French styled Resort – read alot of bad reviews about the hotel, but I still want to go for the pretty surrounding

Done – my humble travel list for 2009 and my New Year’s Resolution No 2 – to see the world a littleee more.

Can’t wait!

Food O Glorious Food @ Manila

12 Dec

A melting pot of a food connoissuer’s delight and also the one responsible for my weight gain.

Reasons why you’ll love dining here:

1) Extremely affordable and diverse
2) You don’t have to pay through you nose for alcoholic drinks
3) Impressive décor which puts most restaurants in KL to shame.
4) You can stuff yourself silly and drink till pigs fly in a fancy restaurant and yet pay less than RM80 for 2-3 people

Now tell me this isn’t a food haven? TELL ME!

However for the record, hubby and I agree that we can’t tolerate Filipino food. No offence. They eat too much pork and beef and everything else is added with sugar, tons and tons of it.

Well if that’s your cuppa tea then yay, thanks for murdering the cute pigs and cows buddy.

Most of my lunches were done alone and never will I dine single again coz I just felt so alone and misplaced. Hoo hum.

But despite dining alone, I’ve managed to gobble up and discover some of the best tasting food all by myself.

Jolibee – Philippine’s own fast food chain – you absolutely cannot go to Manila and not put this in your tummy.

An entire meal that only cost me RM5, can you scream CHEAP-i-could-eat-you-every-day?

Cibo Italian Restaurant @ Glorietta

Now this came highly recommended on Trip Advisor and for a reason. It was certainly almost an orgasmic experience when I bit into its chicken pannini sandwich – it was literally to die for and the best sandwich I’ve had to date. Period.

Who needs a man when you have Cibos.

I kid I kid.

Figaro’s Coffee House

Discovered by ME – at only RM7, their Caramel Coffee Light was the best blend yet, and heck I don’t usually even drink coffee but hey the cute waiter recommended it to me so what’s a girl to do :) Ignore? Nuh uh.

And finally, dining with the other half:

We did most our dining at the Greenbelt vicinity because we couldn’t resist its environment and allure. It was such a beautiful and romantic place that immediately sets you in the mood, if you know what I mean *wink*.

Casa Armas

Craving for Spanish? They serve the best tasting Paella ever. Shame on you La Bodega. And despite having drinks and 2 starters, the entire bill came up to only RM80! I checked the bill a few times because I thought they forgot to add in some items, lol. You’ll never end up paying that price in KL for sure. Agreed?

Gilak By Hossein

A highly recommended Persian & Indian Restaurant

Okay this was a tad pricey but what the heck; the food quality – only the best.

See you can even get some local food if you miss home

A Mexican place – can’t remember the name

Authentic chicken wings, chicken salad and the yummiest nachos we ever had. And margarita as cheap as RM9. Need I say more?

Marciano’s Italian New York Restaurant

I picked this restaurant coz I was craving for some Italian but to be honest, the settings got to me. Have no regrets stepping into it. Infact, I miss this place so much. Start a franchise here maybe?

The starters

Hubby’s Pasta

My Risotto

All of the above = Happy satisfied diners

Max’s Restaurant

Our first and last encounter with Filipino food. Don’t quite understand how this outlet is SO popular here.

I ordered some fries but little did I know it came in the form of banana fries that you’re supposed to eat with sugar, like what the freaking hell?

I think I’m sweet enough, heeh.

Bangus (made of milk fish) & Chips

Hubby’s Chicken Meal

My extra bloody sweet carbonara.Who puts chicken liver in carbonara sauce by the way?

Screw Filipino food. Ruined my Sunday lunch!

Another romantic place to dine is definitely Fort Bernifisio which we discovered by chance after our visit to Market Market mall.

The amount of classy restaurants here were overwhelming. You could easily let your tum tum rumble and spend a good 30 minutes deciding just where to eat!! Not an easy task I assure you.

Hubby was craving for some Thai food so off we went to a Thai place which I don’t remember.

Again, can I squeak how gorgeous the settings are?

No Thai iced tea, no talk :p

Absolute bliss :)

Sbaro

The place to go for a quick cheap Italian meal. They have all kinds of pizzas that will make your mouth water and make your decision to pick one very hard…

Look Ma – Broccoli pizza for the health conscious. Ahem – obviously wasn’t my meal

Goldilocks

Of course Dheeraj swears that you’ve not been to Manila if you don’t step into Goldilocks Bakeshop, which you can find in every freaking corner. And bless my bestie for he was right, they have some of the yummiest cookies/cakes and my favourite? Their polvoron, which I brought back home.

Brownies Unlimited

Super affordable brownies which I LOVE and MISS. Nuff said.

And last one

Not for eating, although in some countries they wouldn’t hesitate.

Meet Lucky Junior – a family friend’s dog that we visited. Looks like we Indians are everywhere, no? They’ve been living in Manila for 13 years and absolutely love it and it’s easy to understand why.

Gosh, this post just made me realize how much we ate. But like my grandfather used to say, eat and be happy, we just live once afterall don’t we?

Diet? Will do just that next year – definitely No 1 on my New Year’s Resolution.

Speaking of which, have you done yours?

Have a great weekend. Taaaa.

Manila Philippines

10 Dec

Note: Brace yourself; this is going to be a long picture post hence I will be making 2 blog entries

Date: 3rd to 9th December, 2008
Trip: Makati City, Manila Philippines

It’s funny really how sometimes some things are just meant to be. Agree?

About 2 months ago I suggested to hubby that we explore Manila but of course he wasn’t too keen as it isn’t really a hot spot for tourist. Fast forward 2 months there I was in the midst of Manila’s hustle and bustle blending in really well with the locals (bless my tanned skin and long black hair, lol), since hubby recently accepted a new job position that requires him to travel there.

This Manila trip – so meant to be– OH YEAAA!

The journey to Manila took a good 7 hours. Was up by 4am as my flight was at an ungodly hour. Parents were kind enough to send me to the airport although I insisted on taking the cab. Took approx 3.5 hours to reach the Clarks Diosdado Macapagal International Airport. Once I got there, hopped onto a Philtranco bus that took 1.5 hours into Manila City.

Clarks itty bitty Airport

And after all that travelling I was finally there:

We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City.

That’s the view I wake up to every morning, not too bad for the shopa/foodie-holic in me

And this is at 5.30 pm. It gets dark here after 5pm.

Makati City itself is gorgeous and clean but naturally it should be since its Manila’s important business district. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Yes I have them sometimes :)

One of the perks that came with our room was the use of Club Lounge where we got to enjoy free finger food, internet and drinks; by drinks I mean free flow alcohol from 6-8pm. So that we did almost everyday :)

It felt like we died and went straight to heaven. Ok ok I kid.

Love this picture of him :)

Attraction Sites

Now Manila is hardly known for its sight seeing so there was little to see but either way managed to squeeze some sites which we explored together with hubby’s colleague from Beijing (Another meant to be moment, will tell you why next week!).

Intramuros

This is the ruins of the Spanish colonial along the southern bank of the Pasig River, which was built by the Spaniards in the 16th century. Today it is the oldest district of the city of Manila where you can also find a lot of the poorer people here with the occasional kids running up to you begging for money. But nevertheless, the sight of beggars is far less compared to say China or India.

Because the Intramuros is so big, we decided to hop on the trishaw to explore more grounds. We pitied the guy who had to peddle his bicycle with two big fat loads in it, heh! At least we paid him decent money for it so all is good.

Manila Cathedral

Inside the Intramurous vicinity you can find the most gorgeous church you’ll ever see. And because 99.9% of the population here is made up of Christians, there are even churches in malls and at every corner of the city.

Manila Bay

Now, a lot of people don’t know this, (heck even I didn’t know before stepping foot into Manila) – the two things that I’m now convinced what Manila is famous for – Shopping and Food.

All the making of a good holiday, save for the attraction.

Shopping:

If you don’t believe the amount of malls they have, click here. It’s as though shopping is a part of their culture? Maybe, just maybe. This was also probably the best time to go to the malls coz of the massive Christmas sale.

Due to the bombing in Glorietta 3 times, yes thrice, security everywhere you go is extremely tight, even in malls and hotels. You’ll have to open your bag and go through the metal detectors – it’s a bit of a hassle but hey prevention is better than cure. And they also have adorable Labrador doggies at the hotel to sniff out your bag. Cute!

Back to the malls, wish we could have covered most of it but due to traffic and the pain of getting a cab, we covered these must-see malls instead:

Glorrietta

Green Belt

A high end posh mall comprising of 5 buildings. Also has some of the best restaurants around. The only places I could afford to step in were Kiehl’s and the eateries. :p

These two malls are inter-connected together with several other malls, yes you read right, several other malls – so you can imagine how much walking I did in the past 1week here since it’s just opposite our hotel. The malls were so big that every time I went, there was always a new shop and spot to discover. Spent most of my time here alone while hubby worked his cute tush off.

SM Mall

One of the malls connected to Glorietta. Spent most of my time shopping for groceries here

Spoilt for choices where milk is concerned. Milk is good for you! Chocolate ones especially, nyam nyam.

SM Mall of Asia

Just near the Manila bay near the ocean lays is the 1st largest mall in Asia and the 3rd largest mall in the world. And to think we were there!! The size of this giant mall is overwhelming and exploring it 1 day definitely isn’t enough. Alas we were there for only 2 hours. Boo.

And look a Jeepney, take it if you dare

Market Market at Fort Bonifacio

A very inexpensive shopping complex popular with the locals close to the central business district of Makati. Here you can find a multi-storey mall complex with department stores and a huge flea market combined.

Greenhills Shopping Centre

This is a must go for those who want to shop at a huge discount shopping centre. Reminds me of Bangkok’s chatucak market except it’s fully air-conditioned. Nice.

SM Megamall

Located roughly 20 mins away from the hotel. Took a cab and covered this mall on my own. Again, it’s super huge and you see nothing but rows of shops. My poor feet were aching from all that walking, I kid you not. Too bad there aren’t big on foot massages here, bah.

My buys:

Can you believe I paid only RM7 each for the tops?

Heart the dress, only less than RM30 :)

Perfumes

I think the Filipinos are BIG on smelling good, like me, heh. Perfumes here are generally inexpensive and you’ll see various local brands in every store you walk into.

One for mommy, one for auntie and one for MIL

More perfumes :)

My finds from SM Mall

Naf Naf belt for RM21? Yes FREAKING WAY!

Ooo and got some nice undergarments for like dirt cheap, yes!

While my hubby slogged away at work, I figured I’d surprise him with this gift:

A Brad Pitt project – limited edition throughout the world yo. Figured I’d do some charity too as all net profits will go to saving the environment. So that was RM80 well spent! And when the bottle finishes, I’m going to keep it and auction it off on Ebay 10 years from now, heeeh.

Hubby’s finds:

Heh, love the shirt. Isn’t it cute?

And of all the things he could buy in Mall of Asia, he buys these:

Yup, toiletries. Men.

Okay although malls are in abundance with really cheap priced goods, we didn’t shop much because quality is definitely compromised but hey if you ain’t fussy then this is an ideal shopping haven. Plus there were tons of Christmas deals and offers that were super cheap! Too bad we’re fussy shoppers, well sort of.

Next

Clubbing:

Of course, what’s a holiday without partying with the locals’ right? Did some clubbing in Bed and their Ice Bar. Although the clubs in the posh area of GreenBelt were a tad small, it was still fun and best of all, cheap!

In Bed

Ice Bar

Then we went back to Bed Space for some drinks and shisha

Oh I need to mention that the Filipino boys aren’t too bad looking what with their mixed blood and all! That is until they open their mouth and out comes the annoying thick Filipino accent that I cannot stand. A shame! Did I mention it’s really annoying?

My hubby is still cuter though. Honest. *grins*

And for obvious reasons, Nicole from PCD is extremely famous here; everywhere you go you hear nothing but her music. She’s also the model for some shampoo ad, the billboard ads here are equivalent to 5 billboard ads you see in KL.

Besides that, the weather was extremely pleasant, cloudy and windy most times. Aaah, just how I like it.

Honestly, this trip was quite unexpected, a real nice surprise to end the year with.

And I definitely thanked my hubby when I got there, oh yes I did *wink*

Will blog about the food in the next entry, that one deserves an entry of its own and when you see the pictures and restaurants you’ll know why.

Manila I miss you! And more importantly, I miss my hubby. 3 more days to go…

Dear Online Diary and the Ocassional Readers,

HI!

By the time most of you read this I will be away saving the Baluts because I think eating nearly developed embryos is really disgusting.

I would also like to enlighten you on the meaning of LOVE.

Love is when the husband buys a ticket for his wife because he cannot stand being away from her for 12 days.

Love is when the wife knows that and uses up her very last 4 days of annual leave (which she has been saving for another trip ok), knowing that she’ll have to brave 7 hours of travelling alone just to be with him.

And the wife knows this isn’t going to be fun since she’ll be spending most days alone by herself.

Bah, who am i kidding, I can’t wait to explore Makati City on my own.

Will try to update when I’m there. Miss me!

Off to save the Baluts. Peace.

But chop before that, something that tastes much better than those icky Baluts

My Baked Mini Overloaded-Oreo Cheesecake.

A slice of heaven :)

Too bad hubby missed out on this. Okay bye!
