These Ain’t Fat Jeans

26 Mar

(Ps: Those who wish to buy brand new maternity tops from the US, email me at teh.tarik.addict@gmail.com thanks!)

When you’re pregnant,  you will automatically kiss your 3 inch high heels goodbye and settle for:

Comfie shoes with sturdy heels or no heels at all.

(Forgive me, I still wear my high heels ocassionally) :D

You’ll get sucked into buying anything that has the  ’safe for mommy, safe for baby’ tagline.

Shopping for maternity clothes in Malaysia is like striking lottery and discovering a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

It is THAT hard to find anything remotely decent. It’s like every time designers design clothes for pregnant women they decide to go brain dead! While you can find some decent clothes ocassionally, it will usually cost you an arm and a leg.
For this reason I’ve shopped for ALL my maternity tops overseas.  Being a borderline shopaholic, I purchased 15 maternity tops online. I’m still waiting for my parcels to arrive and I really hope they’ll fit me great.  But one gold mine I discovered was the maternity jeans and work pants from our very own Jusco in Mid Valley.

Up until last week, I could fit into my jeans. I still CAN but I noticed when I sit, my little bump does seem squashed and it becomes a little uncomfortable for me AND I can’t imagine how it must be for peanut.

So I resorted to buying a maternity belly band.

It’s a simple band that you may use to hold your bump properly. Also, it allows you to unzip the button of your pants/skirts a little while placing this over it so that there’s more space for your belly to breathe.

However, as much as I LOVE this concept, it really doesn’t quite work.  It has its way of moving up causing jeans to unzip completely and become loose.

Feeling frustrated, I stepped into Jusco and made a bee line to the maternity section. Granted their maternity dresses and tops suck big time, I still decided to try on the maternity jeans. I was almost certain this jeans wasn’t going to be a good fit (yet alone flatter me!) but the next thing you know, I was already queuing up at the counter purchasing 2 jeans. All for the price of RM60 each!!

The secret is in the bump holder that makes it soooo comfie!! The cut isn’t too bad too, at least it flatters me. My only gripe is that you need to wear a slightly longer top so that the band doesn’t show or make you look disproportionate.

They’re right when they say the most comfortable clothes you’ll ever wear are maternity clothes!!

Which is why I even saw some non-pregnant older women buying maternity pants too :)

I sometimes wish I was preggers all for the sake of “letting it all hang out” LOL especially after big dinners and I’m trying to “maintain” in my skinny jeans :P

Hahahaha, you remind me of this episode of FRIENDS where Joey wears Pheobe’s maternity pants so that he can eat. He calls them his Thanksgiving Pants (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpAzBl3jyok in 1.50).

Cas, you’re going to be one hot mama.

hi!stumbled upon your blog when i was looking for some cute clothes suitable for preggers like us.i am coming close 2 3 months now.belly has not shown yet but clothes r getting a bit tight now. Went to Jusco last weekend hoping to get a couple of stuff especially pants.dunno what got into me, but i just started crying.cause everthing looked so big n i dunno how big i am gonna get in the next 6 months.it was very depressing, that i ended up crying on my husband s shoulder n feasted on claypot chicken rice which surely made me feel a whole lot better:)so after, reading yer blog on maternity jeans at Jusco (Queensbay, Penang),am gonna give it another shot probably ina months time. Any suggestions for work skirts.cause my job doesn t allow pants or jeans. Looking forward to replies from u guys.Thanx a million:)

Hi there! Well first off congrats on being preggers :) It’s about time that you start shopping for maternity clothes. I’m not sure about Jusco Penang, but if you can, maybe a trip down to KL would be nice coz there are nice pants/jeans and even tops you could get from Jusco Mid Valley. I understand how you feel coz when I saw some of the maternity clothes, I got really frustrated coz it was soo old fashion and hideous. I think Jusco has recently added work shirts for pregnant women too, I bought one recently and it’s very nice. As for work skirts, I honestly can’t find any. But they do have alot of work pants – I’ve bought 4 of them! You could always pair a normal tunic top with maternity pants/skirt for work. That’s what I do. Also if you can, try to get those leggings for pregnant women – it is SOOO comfortable!

Anyway if you’re comfortable shopping online, you can check this site out from the States: http://www.babiesnbellies.com/ I got about 5 tops for only USD100 (shipping included). I’ve also bought a few tops from Ebay US. If you can shoot me an email, I can give you the link of the sellers.

Hope this helps and hope you find your maternity clothes soon :)

    Hi there!
I’m 4 months preggers now and looking for new clothes… U’re right – I got so depressed just shopping for maternity clothes. They are hideous, big and bulky! Just bought a black pants to wear to work, today’s the 1st day of wearing it and i feel BIG!!! Thanks for the tip on the jeans at Jusco, will check them out. Unfortunately i cant wear them to work else i would get a few. Still sourcing for some nice work attire. I found some superb clothes at UK online shopping websites but they dont deliver here… Any other tips?

    • TheMissusBlogs 01. Jun, 2010 at 5:16 pm #

Hi there, first off congrats on your pregnancy :) Well, I feel your pain too and I strongly suggest you check out Jusco. It pretty much worked for me – I love my maternity jeans and pants that I bought there, esp since they fit me great. I’ll be blogging soon about the tops that I got from Ebay US, I’ll also leave links so you can check it out. If you want, I can also provide you with people who can help you ship these items from Uk to Malaysia or any other sites from the US, although I have to say it would cost quite a bit. Just drop me an email :) Hear from you then. Cheers!

My previous reply didnt get posted (error) so I’m writing again wt the hope that it’s not a duplicate! :-)
Thanks for the tips, I went to Jusco Midvalley over the weekend but didnt really find anything nice. Have not tried their jeans yet. Anyway I found out about this product – the Belly Belt, from some forum… It’s from Mothercare, but currently out of stock. It’s sort of an extender that you attach to your pants / jeans / skirt, that allows you to wear your existing clothes longer. Am gonna blog about it soon, so if u’re keen you can check it out too! :-)
    Cheers!

No problemo, make sure you look out for it properly coz their maternity section is all over the place in Jusco. You can actually get really nice working pants there.

Anyway, my advice to you is invest in proper maternity clothes. They really do give you the comfort that you need and trust me, you’ll need it when your belly grows bigger. I’ve tried the belly band and let’s say it didn’t work for me. My clothes were still tight and uncomfortable and I know these things dont’ come cheap. I’m happy with my maternity clothes right now so hope you’ll be able to find yours too :)

      • Dee 02. Jun, 2010 at 4:47 pm #

Is it? I only noticed Scarlet having maternity clothes when I was in Jusco Midvalley. Guess I gotta go on a hunt again! I’m all for buying nice clothes, but the few times i shopped, couldnt find anything nice so I havent bought much. Thot the belly band can last me another month or so til i can really shop for proper clothes.. Plus, it can help me after I deliver before i get back into shape!
I’ve checked out some UK websites etc, they have really nice clothes! Will probably email u soon to get the links and contacts to ship stuff from UK and US to Msia….

        • TheMissusBlogs 03. Jun, 2010 at 11:59 am #

Well maybe you could hunt for it properly again :) What you could do is invest in proper maternity pants, and get normal tops that are a size bigger. Whatever it is, you must allow some breathing space for your bump to grow :) Anyway, you can check out mypurpleplum.blogspot.com I got her her to help me get some Dorothy Perkins Maternity tops and also two more others from her site. Unfortunately she’s back in Malaysia but she has a few ready stock for maternity tops. Sure, just drop me an email :)
