KL Hop On Hop Off

12 Jun

Sairah is ‘new’ to KL! She only arrived here 21 months ago :D  and has not really had a proper tour of her current home/city that is KL! Sure we do drive a lot around KL city but we never really pay attention to its surrounding. Ironic much? Yea, life is like that.

So when I saw the KL Hop On Hop Off deal on Mydeal, I was sold! I got the tickets for a mere RM10 each (2 years and below FREE) and on Sunday, Sairah embarked on her FIRST bus ride (okay technically second coz we took a bus in Perth once but she wasn’t into ‘Tayo’ yet so couldn’t be arsed about it).

Sairah is a huge fan of Tayo cartoon (sorry forgot to add that to the earlier list, I forget sometimes she has since graduated from BabyTv and have moved on to Disney Channel which has ALL kinds of cartoons! But I am GLAD coz Disney channel is WAY better than bloody BabyTv!) which quite literally is a cartoon about talking buses.

Even as we boarded the bus, she kept calling it TAYO! And that lasted for the longest time ever. Can you imagine sitting near a toddler who just wouldn’t shut up and kept saying TAYO all the time while grinning away? Yea sure it’s super cute when it’s your kid. I only felt sorry for the others passengers who were probably wondering what language that kid was babbling on, lol

Baby’s outfit:

Tunic top from Target, Perth. Black leggings with lace from Target, Perth.

The legging duo, lol. Comfie as hell! Truth is, I wanted her covered up as much as I could coz I didn’t want her getting burnt from the sun.

But first up, we went to use two pizza vouchers at California Pizza Kitchen in Farenheit mall. I also purchased these from Mydeal. Mydeal please bring this deal back again! Baby loved their margarita pizza.

A quick diaper change while we mess around at the baby room

Then it was off to our Tayo adventure!!

It was a 3 hour ride around KL coz we made various stops. You can check out all the major stops here. The weather I should add was absolutely horrible so we didn’t get down, only sat in the bus on the upper deck just taking in the view. And a part of me reminisced our Hop on hop off adventure in Paris. Too bad the bus wasn’t open air coz yea, weather and pollution sucks here. Unlike the HPHO in Paris where you get to play the audio on your own, the audio here was centralized and they literally had an assistance on the bus pressing it at the right time. It’s obviously coz of the unpredictable bad jam :)  But good thing we went on a Sunday – clear roads!

The bus made several stops (about 25 I reckon) and I could recognize em all, naturally coz I”m a KL-ite :)

First stop. Jalan Alor! Which is just behind my office I should add, hah.

Then came Maybank, which they said was the tallest building in the triangle area next to Menara KL and Twin Towers.

A road that I use almost every day….Petaling Street!!

Baby kept holding on like that, she kept saying mommy hold….so much thrill in that!!

Heritage building, soon to make way for stupid MRT, le sigh. I have memories of coming here as a school girl after school hours to hang out with friends.

Central Market

KTM Station

Jakun standing up

Museum Negara

B’fields aka  Little India

Hah, so this is where daddy likes to hang out ma?

The cool sistas :D

Istana Negara. The bus made a 10 minute stop here. And no, we didn’t get down. I think the lil one found it more fun to walk around the bus.

Oo what’s behind there?

Oo look a rubberband. Me gonna try and thread mommy’s leg hair, LOL. No idea where she found that.

Then it was off to another familiar spot – the lake garden vicinity! As someone who used to go to school nearby (Malaysia’s Greatest School ahem!), it brought back so many memories! We passed by the bird park, the Islamic museum, the national museum and to think 5 14 years ago I was passing by that road everyday.

Twin Towers from far

Twin towers upclose

I should add as we approached lake garden baby fell asleep  from all that excitement and only woke up as we were heading towards KLCC.

So a milk feed on board Tayo was absolutely due.

OH and in true Malaysian spirit where maintaining anything just seems like a foreign thing to them, the bus we were on just bloody had to experience ‘technically difficulty’ once we reached on top of Menara KL. So we decided to take a cab back to Farenheit…..and thankfully the cabbie was using a meter. Sairah was so happy to be on the cab too so in a way, the bus breaking down was some sick blessing coz baby girl got to ride a BUS and CAB in a day, woot! I should also add that the aircon in the bus wasn’t working well that particular day.

I had to take off her leggings towards the end and missy was chilling out this way at the mall!

I thought it was a rather adorable look but hubby said no coz her diapers were peeking out. Spoilt sport.

Good thing a mother knows how to pack EXTRA clothes so a quick dash into the baby room and wala, we be wearing that ugly loud t-shirt/shorts daddy got from Manila.

A quick coffee break while the little one literally buries her face in her book before we head home – TIRED but HAPPY over our little KL adventure.

And boy did she sleep well that night!

Sometimes as an adult, we take a lot of things for granted. Simple back to basic things don’t excite us anymore, things like the sun, waterfall, butterfly, balls, dolls are all just random meaningless objects (okay maybe not the sun coz we’ll just be in pitch darkness) to us but could mean the world to an innocent child.

Its funny sometimes how we think we’re teaching our kids when it’s them who teaches us again to appreciate these simple things and it’s always refreshing when that happens. Embarrassing too coz it takes someone that tiny to teach you these things – but hey lesson learnt. So now whenever I see a bus anywhere,  I think of Tayo because I know how that bus makes my daughter so happy and appreciative of a lil creation called a bus.

And yes if you’re keen on getting these tickets cheaply like I did, I just noticed this deal on JackCow Seriously, take your child on this and see their excitment!

To see my baby THIS excited, happy and curious just made me so content. This was one of the deals that only cost me RM20 in total but brought total joy to the little one and us– doesn’t get better than that!

Love that you packed extra for baby girl! And love the fact that a bus ride made her sooo happy! It’s so true you know, that we forget simple things, simple pleasures. This post sure is a good way to have readers reflect on this too! Thanks babe!

The part about how we adults take things for granted and how it is our kids who teach us to value the basics. That really spoke well to me. =) Thanks for the reminder.

I’m glad you could relate. When your nephew is walking about and talking, you’ll find him getting amused at the simplest of things and that itself will amaze you and make you appreciative of the simple stuff :)

This is a fantastic idea! I grew up taking the public transportation alot and now, I can’t even remember when is the last time I got into a bus or even the LRT for that matter. I totally agree with you on how simple things excite them and like a domino effect, it excites the grownups :) My baby has fun just throwing around her mini bolster and before u know it.. she starts a fun pillow fight amongst her cousins (and sometimes also amongst the overgrown children..) :) hence why I completely look forward to some QT with the family during the weekend! :)

Haha yea you’d be suprise how bus/train/cab rides can excite them coz it’s SOO new to them. I used to take the bus too back in Uni and since working for the life of me can’t remember the last time I boarded a bus so this was a good change. LOL that is so cute, no wonder you’re always taking off on Friday for extended weekends, hehe. Pillow fights are always awesome!
